Over the last week Bunsen has really accepted Bernoulli and is playing with him like he did with baby Beaker and letting him snuggle in. It’s so awesome! They do sound like angry bears fighting though. 🤣 Beaker is still unsure.

Beaker is still trying to transition for youngest dog to middle dog. Quite a change for her. She not only has become a big sister but she now has *two* brother bears to deal with. 😄

On morning #2 Brix is now 1000% more confident. He has graduated from the bathroom safe room to our front room and just wants to be out and about with the dogs. He still isn’t super happy when they get close to body BUT he doesn’t mind now being close to them and watching them. Bernoulli is beside himself just wanting to lick/play with Brix but is still getting hissed/swatted if he gets too close. Bunsen just respectfully watches Brix and is so in love with the kitten. Beaker is concerned as always. It takes time but in a day- big differences!

2025 has been an overall joyous year, but with some really hard parts, some which are ongoing. Joyous: We discovered what was disabling Bunsen in January - it was a slipped disc, and with three months of rest he healed and is doing great. Bernoulli learning to swim and dock dive was so much fun. Seeing him swim with Beaker warms my heart. Brix. This little tiny cat has given us so much joy in November and December it’s hard to put into words. Beaker. Our steady golden girl was our rock. The Tough: Bunsen being on rest wasn’t fun. Seeing him age is also hard as I honestly thought he was invincible. The big guy is tough and resilient though. Adam and Ginger moving away. We didn’t share this on social media but we were crushed and lost for most of September. Moving away is part of life, and though it was hard, we understood. The Strike. Kris and I were part of the largest strike in our province’s history. We lost when the government took away our right to strike and ordered us back. It’s been hard to teach, I’m not going to lie. Gord’s health. Kris’s stepdad had a stroke and heart attack in December and he is not out of hospital yet. Like Bunsen he is stubborn and tough. He has a good chance at recovery. My baby brother, Kenji the Mooseweiler, really adores his moose leg toy. He took it outside then used it to knock on the door to ask to come back in! The moose legs are awesome toys but it's extra special to him because the Bunsen, Beaker, Bernoulli & Brix family gave it to him. They were some of the first humans that came over and met him when he was pork roast sized, and have visited numerous times. We don't have very many human visitors so those visits have been very influential to Kenji. The relationships with human friends a puppy makes early in life get etched into their hearts. Bunsen, Beaker, Bernoulli & Brix rolled in enroute to Expo like a traveling circus that also happens to be house-trained. Bernoulli, Beaker, and Brix the cat. Four chunks of meat cake. Four dogs. One starting gun that was just a human saying “okay.” I am the fastest at pretty much everything. Zoomies. Hallway sprints. Emotional support. Tax season. Apparently I'm now too old to take the medal in food events. Beaker evaporated her slice. I blinked and it was gone. I am still processing. Kenji is still chewing. A couple weeks ago we took Bernoulli and Beaker in to donate blood. Beaker missed the cutoff - she’s too little and under the 55 pound cutoff. We learned a TON. I thought they would take the blood from Bernoulli’s leg/arm but NOPE they take it from the neck. Dog legs don’t have enough blood flow to easily draw from. So that meant Bernoulli had to be flipped and pinned! He did awesome. His first time was a trial run and we are going to work on some skills for the real deal which happens in about 4 months. Dog blood types are fascinating so watch for a video about that soon.
