The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan is strengthening multimodal connectivity, streamlining trade, and reducing logistics costs. As a result, India’s ranking in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index has risen from 54 in 2014 to 38 in 2023. Also, the development of public digital infrastructure has been transformative. A massive push has been undertaken to address infrastructure and logistics bottlenecks. Capital investment has increased from 1.7% of GDP in FY2013-14 to 3.2% in FY2024-25, with effective capital expenditure at 4.1% of GDP. Over the last 11 years, 88 airports have been operationalised, 31,000 km of new rail tracks laid, metro networks expanded over fourfold, port capacity doubled and the National Highway network has extended by 60%. For working women, maternity leaves has been increased to six months on the insistence of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Two years ago, we came up with a scheme where we increased interest rates on deposits made by women to 7.5% to encourage women to keep their savings in banks rather than keeping that as cash at homes. Property registration in the name of women have tax concessions. Under Poshan Scheme, the nutritional needs of pregnant women and lactating mothers are being met. Under PM Awas Yojana, registration of pucca houses is done either in the name of a woman or jointly with that of a male member. Apple’s decision to expand iPhone manufacturing in India despite challenges shows the growing global confidence in the country's manufacturing ecosystem. Thanks to forward-thinking policies like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and sustained efforts by the Indian government, India is fast becoming a global hub for high-tech manufacturing. Just a decade ago, over 80% of smartphones in India were imported, and smartphone exports were negligible. Today: 👉 By the end of 2025, about 25% of all iPhones will be made in India, up from virtually zero a few years ago, when China dominated Apple’s supply chain. 👉 Foxconn, a key Apple supplier, has invested Rs 12,700 crore in India, with other partners like Pegatron and Wistron also scaling up operations. 👉 India is well on track to hit $300 billion in electronics manufacturing by 2027, with $120 billion targeted for exports.
