I used @grok to write all the firmwares and services for the following components of this build; Ignition control module: sequences startup, turns on and off PC with ignition gracefully & handles LED light control Thermal Management System: Controls valves, listens to BMS for thermal needs Onboard Diagnostic PC: Services for Grafana, CAN to MQTT, serial handling of messages from the ignition PCM for shutdown and messages from the PC to control lighting, ad-hoc WiFi, camera recording and preview with ffmpeg and nginx web serving All written with Grok.

Thank you @sulaimanghori for making Grok great!

😮😮😮 this is sick

@tismastic Thanks!

wild

how is the prop shaft sealed do they make standard things for that

We’re using a Konrad 560 sterndrive on this build

i am not familiar with those; they handle the sealing as a part of the mount?

Oh yeah. It’s a bolt on unit that’s all sealed up. My next build will be inboard with the m3 motor directly driving a prop shaft. That will use a thru-hull seal made for those as well.

why go for a stern drive dv a direct drive prop? no rudder to figure out?

Sterndrive simplified getting to an MVP, and has its advantages. This one is a dual prop setup, slightly more efficient than a single prop. We will put hydrofoils on the boat for additional efficiency gains after initial testing without.

What is the red liquid in the Nalgene? FYI: Nalgene water bottles will craze/crack with many oils/fuels!

Oil for the Konrad sterndrive. Manufacturer supplied so hopefully they've done their testing!

This is cool, I had the privilege of installing a few of these on an aerospace vehicle for the payload section to control flaps Neat things.

what valves are those

HSH Flow 3 way valves with auto return capacitors and valve position feedback. I used that to know when it’s safe to turn the pumps back on

that's a lot of wires coming out of it

Yup a positive and negative for the valve actuation, then a common and two limit switches for valve position feedback (thru/bypass)

It goes to this monstrosity with an io expander feeding valve position feedback to an ESP32 8 relay board

happy to be using an air-cooled battery lol

lol I bet. All of my cooling on this build comes from the body of water the craft is on. The water pump constantly pumps through two heat exchangers that the glycol loops can circulate through or not depending on the desired mode (cool both or heat battery from waste heat)

Interesting!

Thank you!

How heavy will this be when completed.

Battery is a little over 1100 lb. Will have to weigh the whole thing

I worry about the charge port being on top — easy for water to get in, and it'd be a pain to get it out. Are there engine mounts on the motor, or it's bolted to the hull? What kind of shaft coupling are you using? What about the hose clamps, are they constant-tension?

Yeah I’m not a fan of the charge port location either, some concessions had to be made for containing the whole thing in the toon. The motor has rubber mounts at three points, those are bolted to a frame that’s welded to the toon. Aquadrive CV21 for the coupling Used stainless band clamps wherever I could, couple locations are traditional hose clamps. Remember, it’s just a prototype :)

Good engineering, I'm sure Tesla folks are taking notes for their electric boats.

Thanks man. They they are listening; all notes would be included with our acquisition 🤣
