🎥 Ryan Grim breaks down several under-the-radar Democratic primaries to watch tonight: ➤ In St. Louis, Cori Bush is seeking a rematch victory over Rep. Wesley Bell. ➤ In Washington state, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is fighting to advance in the state’s top-two primary against both a Republican and a progressive Democrat. ➤ In mid-Michigan, Grim says Sunrise Movement co-founder Will Lawrence could defeat a centrist backed by millions from Washington super PACs. Lawrence is running as an anti-genocide, anti-data center populist in a Republican-held district Democrats could flip. ➤ In Detroit, Grim says Donavan McKinney has a “really strong shot” at unseating Rep. Shri Thanedar, noting that even corporate establishment members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including former chair Joyce Beatty, have campaigned for McKinney. Ryan Grim

New York’s primaries are exposing a growing divide within the Democratic Party, as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is going all-in to help elect three far-left congressional candidates. The candidates are campaigning on policies such as ending U.S. military aid to Israel, expanding access to housing, abolishing ICE, and raising taxes on wealthier Americans as they seek to beat establishment-backed Democrats. Just six months into his term, Mamdani is directly challenging the Democratic machine, fueling speculation that a broader political realignment could be underway as New York voters head to the polls in these pivotal primaries.

🗳️ Mapping the 2028 Democratic Field Ryan Grim says the 2028 Democratic presidential race begins taking shape with tonight’s primary results, which will show whether anti-war populism has real electoral momentum. AOC has a credible “free shot” at the nomination and, Grim says, may take it because “it’s just right there.” Newsom could win by wearing Democrats down and scratching their itch to watch Republicans get mocked. Jon Ossoff is also gaining attention as he mounts a strong Senate reelection campaign in Georgia, a state crucial to any Democratic path back to the White House. The results tonight will help determine if the 2028 field believes it must move toward a base increasingly to the party’s left. Ryan Grim | jeremy scahill

🎥 Jeremy Scahill and Ryan Grim on AOC’s Gaza Reckoning Ryan Grim says AOC has a credible “free shot” at the 2028 nomination, but her claim that Kamala Harris was “working tirelessly” for a ceasefire will follow her until she addresses it. Jeremy Scahill says Gaza became a defining moral issue for young voters, yet AOC played “sheepdog” for VP Harris while Biden funded and enabled the genocide, then Democrats blamed voters of conscience for refusing to fall in line. “There’s no question that she was not the voice of the opposition,” Grim said. Had she taken that role, she could enter 2028 with immense moral authority and be “almost unbeatable.” jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim

Democratic socialist Aber Kawas could become the first Palestinian American elected to statewide office in New York if she wins her race for State Senate in November. She just won the Democratic primary in her Queens district. Kawas says support for Palestine is becoming an important litmus test in progressive politics: "What we are seeing right now is a redefinition of what people want to define as progressive politics, and that Palestine needs to be part of that fold. Having an antiwar platform needs to be part of that. "If you are saying 'I want to deliver affordability,' if you're saying you're against ICE, then people will only see that as consistent in your politics if you're also saying that you're against a genocide in Palestine. So, in many ways we are transforming the Democratic party and also the progressive voice in the Democratic party to make sure that it includes speaking out about Palestine."

🎥 “You always hit a point where they carve out their own version of a Palestine exception.” Rep. Ro Khanna described himself as a “student of Lincoln,” and Ryan Grim suggested Khanna sees Jeremy Scahill as the “crazy abolitionist” willing to say publicly what Khanna may believe but considers politically impossible. Scahill credited Khanna for engaging seriously and for taking positions on Palestine that remain highly unusual in Congress, while explaining why journalists still have a responsibility to press elected officials on the limits of their support for Palestinians. Netanyahu spoke to a largely empty UN hall while outside, New Yorkers filled the streets for Palestine. From morning into the night, the message was loud and clear: Netanyahu is not welcome, the genocide must end, and Gaza will not be abandoned. The U.S. government may continue to give Israel weapons, money and impunity, but people in New York, across the U.S. and around the world continue to stand with Palestine. FREE, FREE PALESTINE! 🇵🇸
