As requested by Alex Miller yesterday, a look at our out of possession shape in the first half. 1: (10 secs) - Wednesday in a very narrow high block in a 523 out of possession. It only looked like this when the ball is central. Nowrich rotate (change positions during play) a lot and this narrow block denies central rotation. In this clip, they have had rotation in left back position as the CM has dropped into the area and left back on the last line. 2: 20 secs - When the ball went wide or started to move wide, the full back would advance up the pitch to pressure the full back and press full back to full back, whilst the CBs would come out with the Norwich forwards coming in between the lines, as this ball transitions across the pitch you see Sargent come out and Iorfa following tight. This is a good point that h mentioned in a recent video about Chelsea's low block against PSG. Unlike the other teams that have defended low against PSG, Chelsea were willing to track the forwards who would alter their position. In the below situation, you can see Ruiz vacate the left half space - dragging Chalobah with him. If Chelsea were purely defending passively, Ruiz would get the ball easily as he'd be unmarked. However, by tracking him, Chalobah leaves the space open. But notice how James recognizes this instantly and covers. By closing the gap, Chelsea have denied Ruiz to receive the ball and turn easily whilst closing the space that Ruiz's movement created. Chelsea's defensive line also didn't always stay deep. When PSG played it back, they'd gradually push up.
