The point about free speech absolutism really matters. I genuinely think the only way we resolve terrible ideas is through better ideas. That can feel daunting in a world where people respond to disagreement with attacks. When attacks happen because you think people with different ideas are fascist or evil - or if someone like Charlie Kirk is assassinated, it creates a climate of fear. It becomes a world where people say words are violence, and therefore they feel entitled to do violence to you because your ideas are considered reprehensible, because you are not seen as a fellow citizen and human but as something evil. It is frightening, but that is exactly when courage is needed. Free speech absolutism gives us the only real tool we have, which is faith, whether secular or religious, in our fellow citizens. Faith that the power of good ideas and the illumination they bring can act as an antiseptic against bad ideas. Sometimes we will lose. But the alternative is far worse. The flip side is absolute barbarism, a descent into violence and dehumanisation, in what should be a shared quest for civilisation over barbarism. I have spent over two decades in politics, and that brings some experience and understanding. One thing I have noticed, and perhaps you have too, is what happens when someone stays in power for too long. They try to make us realize that there are real issues that need to be addressed. It doesn’t matter whether Nehru was a liar or whether the RSS participated in the freedom struggle. What matters is the current situation. We must ask questions of those who are responsible for it. Your MP, your MLA, your DM, your Pradhan, and your Parshad are responsible. They will continue to loot you until you start questioning them. So use your basic rights. Ask questions of those in power. Ask them what they are doing with your tax money. This is our country, and we cannot leave it in the hands of corrupt politicians and babus. Be your own voice. Use the internet and become the voice of others too. What other civilians are being hunted down in the streets of a foreign country because of a war their country is fighting? A war they didn't even start. So let's be clear on this. The brutal attacks in Amsterdam were not a sports brawl, payback for offensive chants at a soccer game, or solidarity with Gaza. It was a deliberate, orchestrated assault on defenseless Jewish people, a reminder of the violent pogroms our communities have faced for centuries. This is the result of years of ignored warnings about antisemitism, unchecked and preposterous lies and slander about Israel, and the worldwide spread of radical jihadi ideology.
