The idea was more front end grip thru the corners. The smaller diameter wheels also allowed for a narrower car width, potentially benefiting the car's overall handling and aerodynamic efficiency.  The P34 was not without its challenges. The smaller front wheels had to be made of a special compound by Goodyear, and they spun faster than the rear wheels. Despite this it won the Swedish Grand Prix in '76 & finished 2nd & 3rd with Jody Scheckter and Patrick Depailler in the 1976 Monaco Grand Prix behind Winner Niki Lauda's Ferrari. 🏁
