Protein catalyzes nearly every biochemical reaction in our bodies, making it indispensable for life. Every day, our bodies renew and replace around 300 grams of protein – the same weight as a can of Campbell's chicken soup. In today's FoundMyFitness episode, Dr. Luc van Loon joins me to shatter myths about protein intake and muscle protein synthesis. His research showed we can utilize up to 100 grams of protein in one meal, far more than previously thought. We also dive into how to distribute protein optimally across the day, the top sources, and strategies to ward off anabolic resistance—a state where muscles dial down their response to protein and exercise. Plant Protein is as Good as Animal Protein for Building Muscle? New Study Breakdown! A new study just dropped demonstrating that a plent blend was as good as whey protein at building muscle over 12 weeks in untrained men undergoing a resistance training program. The headline may surprise some of you, but when I read the full study, I was not surprised at all… why? Because the plant blend was matched to whey in leucine and total EAAs. When you equalize the actual anabolic signals, the gap closes — which is exactly what my PhD thesis showed nearly 20 years ago. Study details (PMID: 41059835) • Randomized, controlled trial in untrained men • Whey vs. plant blend (pea + soy + added leucine) • 12-week supervised resistance-training program • Outcomes: quadriceps cross-sectional area (ultrasound), DEXA, lower-body strength • Result: Both groups improved significantly, with no between-group differences in hypertrophy or strength. This is in line with my PhD research which demonstrated that wheat (a poor protein for stimulating muscle protein synthesis) was as good as whey at stimulating MPS when leucine was added to wheat protein to match the leucine content of whey (PMID: 22818257) Important nuance: The plant blend used in this study is not commercially available, and appears that it was formulated + fortified to match whey’s leucine/EAA profile. That’s why it performed similarly, not because all plant proteins are inherently equivalent to whey for anabolism If your plant protein is low in leucine or EAAs… the results won’t look like this. That said, a plant protein sources can still be as anabolic as animal protein sources if their leucine/EAA content is high enough or if you consume enough protein overall

We did it. Anthony Gustin and I just built the protein bar the industry didn’t want you to have: one actually made for HUMANS. Lineage Provisions Protein Bar – 100% real food, no garbage. Why most bars suck (and aren’t for humans): - Fake fats like EPG (esterified propoxylated glycerol) → causes “oily spotting” / anal leakage / discharge (yes, really) - Artificial sweeteners, preservatives, mystery isolates - Even “clean” ones load up on ultra-processed fiber syrups (tapioca, inulin, chicory root) that ferment in your gut, cause bloating, gas, inflammation. We said enough. We wanted a bar you could literally make at home with real pantry staples – but better: high protein, tastes amazing, verified insanely clean. Introducing the Lineage Protein Bar: 🐮 20g protein from grass-fed whey + collagen 🐄 Grass-fed beef tallow (real fat, not fake) 🍯 Raw organic honey 🥥 Organic coconut nectar 🫐 Organic freeze-dried berries & fruit 🧂 Salt THAT’S LITERALLY IT. No gums, no isolates, no seed oils, no fake anything. We didn’t half-ass this: - Every single ingredient + every batch tested for 400+ contaminants (microplastics, pesticides/herbicides, mycotoxins, heavy metals) - 2 full years of R&D to nail the taste, texture, and mouthfeel (it’s legitimately incredible – not “good for healthy,” actually craveable) Mixed Berry and Chocolate are live now. More flavors in pipeline – comment your requests below! 👇 Grab yours: 💪

When every whey protein brand in India is trying to be 'something', For All goes the opposite whey... sorry, say. It's motto is, 'Taste like nothing. Add to anything'. The idea is really interesting. Many whey protein brands in are looking at how to make their products tasty so that people keep coming back to them. But For All (a US-based brand) is looking at it very differently - how to make the whey (isolate) taste like nothing so that it can be added to anything you make, including coffee, pasta, side dishes, etc. and not worry about whey tastes in itself. It seems too good to be true because it blends whey protein's taste into the background while focusing only on the benefit. A lot of Indian whey protein and isolate brands have unflavored variants, but all of them add something to whatever we add them to. I have tried adding unflavored whey protein and whey isolates to roti dough, and there is a distinct difference, either during the making stage (more gooey dough, making rotis thicker) or in the consumption stage. So, we end up buying protein-induced atta like Milld. But For All's premise is incredibly appealing. And the ad (agency: Raindrop, San Diego) tells the story rather directly, but little nuances (like the 'nothing' uttered by people at the apt moment) significantly enhance even the functional pitch. I can't wait for a 'tastes like nothing' whey isolate brand to launch in India! #advertising #marketing #creativity

EASY high protein chicken salad that just works. This has lots of Mediterranean food flavors, plus 134g protein in total. Divide this into 3 super filling servings, to get 44g protein for just 370 calories. This combination is so delicious, so refreshing, with lots of Mediterranean flavors. I added a touch of pickle juice to the dressing for a flavor kick - it brings everything together, and it adds such a nice touch. I’ve lost over 150 eating high-protein, lowcarb meals like this. Scoop it with some lowcarb crackers, stuff it into lettuce cups, pile it into wraps, or if you’re not lowcarb some toasted sourdough & avocado. Here’s how I made it: 1️⃣ Add 3 cups pulled or diced cooked chicken to a salad bowl. Add 4-5oz of finely chopped arugula or baby kale, 3 finely diced Persian cucumbers, 3 finely diced celery stalks, 1/2 small diced red onion, 3 thinly sliced scallions, and lots of fresh mint (about 4-5 tbsp). 2️⃣ In a separate jar, mix 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 2.5 tbsp mayo, 1.5 tsp Dijon mustard, 3 tbsp pickle juice, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper, and 1 tsp olive oil. Shake until smooth. Taste and adjust salt if needed. 3️⃣ Pour the dressing over the salad, then toss gentlym taste and adjust however way you want. 4️⃣ You can add some more fresh mint on top before serving, or some crushed up walnuts, pistachios or pine nuts. If you make it, be sure to let me know on SHREDHAPPENS 🔥 I share easy high protein recipes, lowcarb meals, and lots of Mediterranean food, so check it out! ENJOY! #lowcarb #lowcarbrecipes #chickensalad #healthyrecipes #mediterraneanfood

SOY...The Estrogen Bomb Hiding In 60% Of Foods. One Serving Of Soybean Oil Has More Estrogen Than A Birth Control Pill. Soy Is Used In Food Products Like Cereal, Bread, Chips, Crackers, etc. A Powerful Endocrine Disruptor Causing Male Feminization & Female Estrogen Dominance. One Tablespoon Of Soybean Oil Contains 28,000 mcg Of Estrogen & Most Birth Control Pills Contain 20,000 mcg Of Estrogen. One Bottle Of Soy Baby Formula Has The Estrogen Equivalent Of One Birth Control Pill. 2 Cups Of Soymilk Has The Estrogen Equivalent Of 1 Birth Control Pill. Fast Food That Is Fried Using Soybean Oil Is The Equivalent In Estrogen To 3 Birth Control Pills. Soy is now ubiquitous in the modern diet. Soy is in 1,000s of foods in the form of soybean oil, soy milk, soy flour, soy lecithin & soy protein. Most people are unaware of how much soy they consume. This is causing the feminization of males & estrogen dominant hormonal disruption in females. In small amounts, traditional fermented soy products like miso, tempeh & natto are not harmful. They go thru a long fermentation process involving weeks until the end product is ready. This is how soy is traditionally consumed in Asian countries. The processed form – which is how soy is predominantly consumed in the U.S. does not go thru this long fermentation process which results in long term illness– it has a toxic effect. Adverse Health Effects of Soy & Soybean Oil: Hormonal Disruptor...Soy contains plant estrogens as Phytoestrogens which effectively raise your estrogen levels & lowers testosterone. Causes Hypothyroid...Soy contains high levels of goitrogens which inhibit the thyroid’s ability to utilize iodine correctly & leads to hypothyroid. Lectins...Alters Leptin sensitivity which leads to Insulin Resistance & Metabolic Syndrome/Obesity. Cancer...High intake of Soy increases Breast & Prostate Cancer. Phytic Acid...Blocks absorption of Zinc, Calcium, Iron & Magnesium. And also causes allergy response to IGG. Gut Microbiome...GMO & Pesticides harm the GI Tract & leak to malabsorption syndrome. Heavy Metals...Soybeans contain high levels of Lead, Nickel & Cadmium. These cause behavior & neurological harms in both children & adults.
