Peak storm surge battering structures on Cedar Key, Florida during Hurricane Idalia. We are glad the TC underwent an eye wall replacement cycle at the end, but the wind field expanded and produced a dangerous surge

Well, as the saying goes..there's a time to rebuild. Very hard to see, but so very great for all of my family (alive/unharmed) Thank you, God for your blessings, help us all to move through this tragedy, with grace, respect & strength. #Idalia #CedarKey #FlWx

So the eyewall replacement, does that just happen on the bigger storms. I've read it makes a sort of double eyewall which makes it have more coverage and damage power

Yes when they go through an ERC the wind field expands and can make storm surges even more significant

Any idea what peak measured storm surge ended up being?

We just recovered our storm surge sensor

Wow, awesome reporting Reed and we appreciate the videos!! Keep up the fantastic work!!

Thanks Reed for always keeping people informed. Please stay safe we need you. #helpingsavelives

I'm glad to know you're ok. Thank you

Two questions: 1. Did the bridge on FL-24 into town hold up? 2. Is that C St on the way to Dock St? Island Place are those condos?

Reed - appreciate your dangerous coverage but would also appreciate coverage of The Island Hotel and how it weathered the storm. Thousands of us have visited the beloved hotel over the years. Thanks, Bill
