Escherichia coli cells burst after treatment with ampicillin, a derivative of penicillin. Scientists believe that these cells burst due to the action of enzymes that break down the cell wall." Source:

This is what penicillin does to me😳

When a cell dies…

The light has gone out of these bacteria's lives

Fun Fact: Penicillin almost went unnoticed! Its groundbreaking discovery was made by Alexander Fleming in 1928, but it took almost 14 years and a world war for its broad potential to be realized and mass-produced.

Interesting fact: The several kinds of penicillin synthesized by various species of the mold Penicillium may be divided into two classes: the naturally occurring penicillin's (those formed during the process of mold fermentation) and the semisynthetic penicillin's (those in which the structure of a chemical substance—6-aminopenicillanic acid—found in all penicillin's is altered in various ways).

The one on the right corner looked like it went nuclear

By stopping them from forming cell walls I think

Thanks Ernest Duchesne and Alexander Fleming!
