We must stop kicking the can down the road. Washington’s addiction to spending is not compassionate—it’s irresponsible. Utahns understand thrift, hard work, and the importance of living within your means. It’s time Congress did too. Moody’s didn’t issue a warning. They rang the alarm. Let’s answer it—with fiscal honesty and the courage to do hard things.

A $500,000 cash payment to every eligible Black American is not a policy. It is a fantasy budget. There are about 40 million descendants of U.S. slavery, so at that price it is $20 trillion. Washington already owes tens of trillions and can barely keep Social Security and Medicare on the tracks. Twenty trillion dollars is not sitting in some 1865 account. The government would have to borrow it or print it. That drives up food, rent, and paychecks for everybody — including the people who are supposed to get the money.

Chinese birth tourists fly in, have a baby, fly home, and never come back. That child gets a Social Security number and gets to vote. It will mail ballots from China. It will collect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. All the benefits with none of the allegiance. That is not what the framers of the Fourteenth Amendment intended. They wrote it to give citizenship to the children of freed slaves. Not to hand it out to the world. Thanks for having me, Andrew Kolvet.
