Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas says he's building a “cognitive operating system.” Not just a browser, but an ambient AI layer that lives with you. “Answers are 4–5 searches in one. Actions are an entire browsing session in one prompt.” The goal isn't search. It's execution.

"We want to be the accuracy layer for AI. That's going to influence both human and AI decision-making. And everyday trillions of dollars of decisions are made across retail, finance markets, exchanges."

I love how the frontier model teams talk about using language to execute actions like it’s a new concept. We (the original Siri) team have been actually doing this since 2007. The Siri “Do Engine” app (pre-Apple) could book flights, movie tickets, concerts, restaurant reservations…etc.

Turning browsers into the fully fledged Agents they were meant to be. From the beginning, browsers were called User Agents in the foundational architecture of the Web. But in practice, early implementations were limited to just browsing—because the rest of the Web (pages, linked data, interactivity) hadn’t fully emerged . Fast forward to today: Thanks to the Web’s growth, we now have enough content—documents and linked data—to train LLMs that can finally unlock the full vision. What was once a simple browser or search engine UI is becoming a true AI Agent—capable of understanding, reasoning, and taking action on our behalf. And now, with open standards like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocol, those actions can be pluggable, composable, and orchestrated across systems. Curious to see how much of this vision manifests in Comet. /cc @AravSrinivas
