🎉 Personal update: After leaving Stripe and taking a much needed break, I’m excited to share that I’ve joined as principal design engineer! And as my first project, I’m thrilled to launch our new landing page:

Era’s been in stealth mode, but as soon as I got a sneak peek of the tech—and knowing the team involved—I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to lead the frontend. I’m also reuniting with several ex-stripes who I loved working with, but who also know when to “let me cook”. 😈

On that note, this landing page has been my life for the past couple weeks and I can’t wait to share the details, but also hint at what I’m building for the product UI itself. 👀 First up is the scrappy prototypes. Since I’m new to 3D, this animation had *a lot* of prototypes:

The one that really got me excited was when I thought of using rotating segments to depict “thinking” and “responding”. All of a sudden, the cube felt like it had a personality.

From there, I focused on building a chat system that directly connected to the rotation of the cube. A message would be broken up into 4 fragments and timed with 4 rotations of the cube. My favorite extra delightful detail was rotating 2 bigger segments for smaller messages:

I got so much energy from building this landing page, and I can’t wait to bring this craft to the product itself. We have *so* much in store this year—be sure to follow along: Thanks again to @alex_norcliffe & @LinsdorB for bringing me along for the ride!

@stripe Why did you not say that this was the beginning of a new era for you?
