Are you poisoning your pet? You may be if you’re giving your pets flea, tick, or heartworm medications. Have you ever read the inserts? You're literally giving your dog pesticides either around their neck or in their food….month after month. No thanks. On my homestead, I skip the toxic sludge and stick to what actually works: real food and natural remedies. If you’re feeding kibble full of dyes, corn, and by-products, you’re creating the perfect environment for pests, and the system will gladly sell you the “solution” in the form of poison. Here’s what I use to keep my dogs pest-free year-round: Coconut oil kills fleas on contact and soothes the skin. I feed 1/4 tsp per 10–15 lbs a few times a week and rub it into their coat when needed. Pumpkin seeds (raw, ground) help paralyze and expel worms 1/4 tsp per 10 lbs in meals during pest season. Brewer’s yeast repels bugs by changing your dog’s scent. I use 1/2 tsp for small dogs up to 1 tbsp for large dogs, a few times weekly. Garlic, used safely, is a natural flea, tick, and mosquito repellent. I give 1/4 to 1 clove (size depending), 2–3x a week, but always watch for sensitivities. Diatomaceous earth can be dusted on the coat (avoid eyes and nose!) to dry out fleas and ticks. Apple cider vinegar is used by 1 tsp per 50 lbs in their water a few times a week. This helps repel pests internally. Always offer plain water too. The truth? Nourished animals don’t attract pests the way sick, inflamed ones do. I’ll choose nature over poison every single time. What about you?
