When Viggo Mortensen was asked to play the role of Aragorn, he almost passed up on the opportunity; at that time, he had never read the books, had never met Peter Jackson, and was asked to travel across the world the very next day. Fortunately, his son Henry Mortensen encouraged him to accept the role. Lucky for us! Viggo was perfect for the role: he was an outdoorsman and did most of his stunts. Not only did he read the books multiple times, but he also went as far as to learn some Elvish, encouraging the script to include more Elven dialect. As some would say, and we wholeheartedly agree, Aragorn was cast to play the role of Aragorn.
