OpenAI just followed the EU AI Act in the most OpenAI way possible... The law says AI text must be identifiable, so they added an invisible watermark to ChatGPT in Europe. Then in the same post, they admitted it barely works. Their own numbers: > change 10% of the words and detection drops from 92% to 66% > change 25% and it drops to 17% > short texts and math are even harder to detect They're not even releasing the detector to the public. And everywhere else in the world, it's just an optional setting for API customers. So what do you think, is OpenAI smart for making it weak on purpose, or is this really the best text watermarking can do right now?
