The first took place on or about 0604H and involved China Coast Guard vessel 5203 (CCGV 5203) colliding with supply boat Unaiza May 2 (UM 2) due to the former vessel recklessly and irresponsibly conducting illegal and dangerous blocking maneuvers against Philippine vessels. The second incident happened at approximately 0814H when Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel MRRV 4409 was struck by Chinese Maritime Militia vessel 00003 that was actively engaged in coordinated maneuvers to harass, impede. and obstruct the Philippine vessels. The PCG reports that crews of the Philippine vessels involved in the collisions were safe and unharmed. Reacting to the incident, Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos, Commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command (WESCOM), stated: “Through the years, our resupply sorties have always been regular and routinary. As of this reporting the mission is on-going. Based on the reports received, as the BFAR vessels approached 1.4 to 1.9 nautical miles from Bajo de Masinloc, the Chinese Coast Guard ships utilized water cannons to obstruct and prevent BFAR vessels from approaching the Filipino fishing vessels eagerly awaiting the oil subsidy and grocery packs. The water cannons had been used at least eight (8) times at the time of reporting. Additionally, the Chinese Maritime Militia vessels are reported to have engaged in dangerous maneuvers and deployed what is understood to be a Long-Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) against the BFAR vessels - causing severe temporary discomfort and incapacitation to some Filipino crew. Water cannon action have resulted in significant damage to BFAR vessel Datu Tamblot's communication and navigation equipment, as it was directly and deliberately targeted by the China Coast Guard. The Task Force likewise denounces the deployment of Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) to disperse and drive away Filipino fishing vessels eagerly awaiting the distribution of fuel subsidies and food supplies from the BFAR ships. To prevent the distribution of humanitarian support is not only illegal but also inhumane. Moreover, Filipino fishermen have reported and documented the Chinese Coast Guard launching a small boat early this morning to illegally install a floating barrier at the southeast entrance of Bajo De Masinloc. The 2016 Arbitral Award has also clarified that Filipinos have traditional fishing rights in the water of Bajo de Masinloc protected by international law. China's illegal exercise of maritime law enforcement powers, interference with Philippine vessels, harassment and intimidation of Filipino fisherfolk, or any other activity that infringes upon the Philippines' sovereignty and jurisdiction in Bajo de Masinloc are violations of international law, particularly UNCLOS and the Arbitral Award. We firmly insist that these Chinese vessels leave Bajo de Masinloc immediately. At approximately 6:26 AM, CCG vessel 3107 fired its water cannon at BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) from a distance of approximately 400 meters, while the PCG vessel was conducting a maritime patrol approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of BDM. Prior to the incident, MRRV-4408 was being shadowed by no fewer than six CCG vessels, alongside Chinese Maritime Militia vessels operating in the area. At around 7:35 AM, CCG vessel 21581 began directing water cannon fire at the DA-BFAR vessel BRP Datu Paduhinog (MMOV 3017), which was en route to conduct its regular MCS mission approximately 12 nautical miles northeast of the shoal. CCG 21581 recklessly closed to a distance of approximately seven (7) meters off the port bow of BRP Datu Paduhinog—a maneuver that placed Filipino personnel at serious risk of collision. It is worth noting that the CCG vessel had deliberately switched off its Automatic Identification System (AIS), concealing its identity in violation of international regulations on safety of navigation. At approximately 7:53 AM, CCG 21581 scored a direct water cannon hit on BRP Datu Paduhinog, followed by two more direct water cannon attacks at around 8:00 AM. Shortly thereafter, BRP Datu Paduhinog experienced a temporary loss of its satellite internet connectivity while transiting approximately 10 nautical miles northeast of BDM; connectivity was restored at 8:36 AM. At around 8:09 AM, Chinese Maritime Militia vessel 00318 was monitored pulling a rope approx 100 meters dead astern of BRP Datu Sumakwel (MMOV 3019), an act that posed a hazard to the vessel's safe navigation. At approximately 8:55 AM, CCG vessel 3303 likewise fired its water cannon at BRP Datu Cabaylo (MMOV 3001) from approximately 300 meters dead astern. Despite these illegal, coercive, aggressive, and deceptive (ICAD) actions, all PCG and DA-BFAR personnel are safe, and the vessels sustained their presence in the area in continued support of Filipino fisherfolk exercising their legitimate rights in their traditional fishing ground. As of 9:30 AM, the PCG monitored a total of twenty-six (26) vessels in the vicinity of Bajo de Masinloc: three (3) PCG vessels, seven (7) DA-BFAR vessels, against twelve (12) CCG vessels and three (3) Chinese Maritime Militia vessels. The PCG strongly condemns the dangerous and unprofessional actions of the China Coast Guard. Bajo de Masinloc is an integral part of the Philippine territory, and its surrounding waters form part of the country's territorial sea and exclusive economic zone. The 2016 Arbitral Award has affirmed that BDM is a traditional fishing ground of Filipino fisherfolk, whose rights cannot be lawfully impeded by any foreign power. The PCG, under the leadership of Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan and in coordination with the NTFWPS, remains steadfast in adhering to the guidance of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. that is to protect Filipino fisherfolk, uphold the rule of law, and defend the country's sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction in the West Philippine Sea—without escalating tensions and in accordance with international law, particularly the UNCLOS.

Statement of the National Task Force-West Philippine Sea December 10, 2023, Manila, Philippines Today, 10 December 2023, China Coast Guard (CCG) and Chinese Maritime Militia (CMM) vessels harassed, blocked, and executed dangerous maneuvers on Philippine civilian supply vessels, in another attempt to illegally impede or obstruct a routine resupply and rotation mission (RORE) to BRP SIERRA MADRE (LS 57) at Avungin Shoal. CCG vessel 5204 deployed a water cannon against the Philippine supply vessels causing severe damage to M/L Kalavaan's engines, disabling the vessel and seriously endangering the lives of its crew. Currently, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel BRP Sindangan (MRRV-4407) is safely towing M/ Kalavaan back to Ulugan Bay, Palawan. Additionally, BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) suffered damage to its mast after being directly targeted by the full strength of the water cannon of the China Coast Guard. The PCG vessels and the resupply boats Unaizah Mae 1 (UM1) and M/L Kalayaan were subjected to reckless and dangerous harassment at close range by CCG and Chinese Maritime Militia vessels on their approach to Avungin Shoal. Contrary to China Coast Guard disinformation, UM1 was rammed by CCG 21556. Despite these extreme and reckless actions, UM1 successfully reached BRP Sierra Madre, and resupply is ongoing as of this writing. The Task Force reiterates that Avungin Shoal is a low-tide elevation within the Philippine's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and continental shelf, in accordance with UNCLOS and as upheld by the 2016 Arbitral Award. The Philippines exercises sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the feature. As a low tide elevation, Avungin Shoal can neither be the subject of a sovereignty claim nor is it capable of appropriation under international law. China cannot lawfully exercise sovereignty over it. In this regard, the assertion of China that its actions in the vicinity of Avungin Shoal are a legitimate exercise of law enforcement measures, has no basis in international law. Further, we express grave concern over the deliberate disinformation conducted through official channels, that distort facts on the ground. We condemn, once again, China's latest unprovoked acts of coercion and dangerous maneuvers against a legitimate and routine Philippine rotation and resupply mission to Avungin Shoal that has put the lives of our people at risk. The systematic and consistent manner in which the People's Republic of China carries out these illegal and irresponsible actions puts into question and significant doubt the sincerity of its calls for peaceful dialogue. Peace and stability cannot be achieved without due regard for the legitimate, well-established, and legally settled rights of others. We demand that China demonstrate that it is a responsible and trustworthy member of the international community. The Philippines continues to act in accordance with international law, particularly UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award. The Philippines will not be deterred from exercising our legal rights over our maritime zones, including Akungin Shoal which forms part of our EEZ and continental shelf.

After months before the court, the trial judge on Thursday 11th June 2026 delivered his ruling on plea bargain terms filed by the prosecution and defence in the case. As a result, all 12 defendants were convicted under Section 25 of the NDLEA Act and sentenced to pay the sum of 100,000 Naira each which is the penalty for the offence under the Act. ⁠In addition, the 1st defendant, which is the vessel, is to pay restitution to the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the sum of Five Million Three Hundred Thousand US dollars ($5,300,000) or its equivalent in Naira. The three principal officers of the vessel who are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants, namely: Sharma Shashi Bhushan; Nilesh Mukuno Bhalerad; and Melethil Insaf Rahman are also to pay restitution to the Federal Government in the sum of 100,000 US dollars each, while other crew members, the 5th to 12th defendants are to pay their restitution in the sum of 50, 000 US dollars each. Reacting to the landmark judgement, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) noted that the conviction of the vessel and its crew members sends a resounding message to every drug trafficking network in the world that “Nigeria is no longer a safe corridor for cocaine or any other illicit substance.” According to him, “This judgment is the third of its kind in recent times, following the convictions of foreign nationals and vessels on similar charges. Facial reconstruction of a 3,600-year-old Mycenaean Greek In the middle of the 20th century, archaeologists discovered in Mycenae Grave Circle B, another royal cemetery that preceded Grave Circle A. The burial complex was discovered accidentally in 1951 when workers were excavating a nearby 13th-century BCE tomb known as the Tomb of Clytemnestra. Grave Circle B consists of 26 graves, dated to 1675–1550 BC, including 14 shaft graves. The shafts, up to 12 meters deep, were marked by burial mounds or stone stelae. The cemetery was probably used for about 100 years. The remains of 35 individuals were found in the graves. The large number of undisturbed graves allowed archaeologists to gain insight into the life of the Mycenaean elite of that time. In the women’s graves, many ornaments were found: earrings, necklaces, and gold and silver pins. Alongside the male skeletons were swords, daggers, and arrowheads; men’s clothing was decorated with gold. In one of the graves, a helmet made entirely of boar’s tusks was discovered. There are more female skeletons than male ones, and overall the female burials are richer. A unique find is a posthumous mask made of electrum, which was not placed on the deceased’s face but kept in a wooden box beside him. Another interesting artifact is a duck-shaped bowl made of rock crystal. Unlike the remains from Grave Circle A, the skeletons from the burials of Grave Circle B are well preserved. The bones of the men show traces of combat injuries, suggesting that some of these individuals likely died in battle. As early as the 1950s, it was suggested that members of several (probably four) noble families were buried in Cemetery B over 3–4 generations. To test this hypothesis, in 1995 anthropologists reconstructed faces from seven skulls found in the burials. Researchers discovered a clear resemblance between two individuals — Z59 and F51 — and divided the seven buried individuals into three groups: “heart-shaped,” “elongated,” and “beak-shaped” faces. In 2008, a genetic study was conducted on 22 skeletons from Grave Circle A. Samples were taken from mandibles and clavicles. Mitochondrial DNA was successfully obtained from four individuals, showing that a man and woman from the same grave (where the posthumous mask was found) were brother and sister. Researchers believe that both men and women of the royal lineage in this ancient society inherited power by right of birth. The skull of an individual from grave Sigma (Σ131) is particularly well preserved. It is the only one in which the lower jaw was present. It is believed that he may have been the founder of the dynasty that established this cemetery, since his grave is one of the earliest in Circle B. There were no pottery or metal objects in his grave, but the burial was marked by a large heap of stones. The anthropologist Lawrence Angel reckoned that he lived to be about 55 years old, judging from the exostoses on his shoulders and feet. Although today these would not be considered precise indicators of age—and his dental age may have been slightly younger than 55—he was still the oldest of all those buried in Circle B. Angel described him as a massively built man, big enough to draw attention in a crowd, and estimated his height at 1.75 m. He suffered from osteoporosis and had a large abscess above the upper right permanent lateral incisor.
