Her sustained winds are now at 130 MPH (210 kph), and the sea-level pressure in her giant eye has fallen to 943 mbar, making her a CATEGORY 4 storm. What an intimidating sight Fung-wong (UwanPH) has become over the Philippine Sea as her winds creep up to 65 mph (100 kph). The sprawling size of this budding West Pacific beast is creating an interesting dichotomy. On the one hand, it’s causing Fung-wong to take longer to organize and thus delaying a potential round of rapid intensification (limiting how strong she can get before striking Luzon). But, on the other hand, her larger radius will affect more people in the Philippines and possibly generate a greater storm surge risk near the location of landfall. Even in this latter scenario, which seems to be increasingly more likely, Fung-wong could still explode to a high-end Category 4 Typhoon. Either way, it’s a serious situation we have developing here tonight.

Typhoon Dolphin is passing directly over Wenzhou, a city home to nearly 10 MILLION residents, with an extremely heavy rain core and training rainbands on the eastern side of her circulation. While the storm’s winds didn’t really intensity over the East China Sea, her surrounding Central Dense Overcast did, and this last-minute resurgence of tropical convection created a massive wall of heavy rain and storm surge that has slammed hundreds of kilometers of China’s coastline to the north of Dolphin’s ~940 mbar eye. Dangerous freshwater floods and widespread power outages are ongoing.

Super Typhoon Sinlaku’s 185 MPH peak strength a few hours ago was very close to her Maximum Potential Intensity. In other words, Sinlaku generated the highest possible sustained wind speeds that a storm could theoretically produce over these specific water temperatures and atmospheric conditions in the West Pacific. Historically speaking, this is extremely rare, and similar to what we saw with Hurricane Melissa last year in the Caribbean Sea.

Super Typhoon Sinlaku’s 185 MPH peak strength a few hours ago was very close to her Maximum Potential Intensity. In other words, Sinlaku generated the highest possible sustained wind speeds that a storm could theoretically produce over these specific water temperatures and atmospheric conditions in the West Pacific. Historically speaking, this is extremely rare, and similar to what we saw with Hurricane Melissa last year in the Caribbean Sea.

The eye of Fung-wong (UwanPH) is really starting to melt through the icy shell of her CDO now. New, towering thunderstorms are rising up within the inner eyewall as well. On microwave imagery, the Typhoon’s cumbersome core structure is still yet to fully solidify. What we could see in the coming hours, especially after the Pacific sun evanesces below the horizon, is for this new burst of core thunderstorms to freeze the eyewall into a more complete and circular ring around the eye. That would likely jumpstart a true phase of rapid intensification right as Fung-wong enters her final approach to Luzon in the Philippines.

Hurricane Melissa has shattered the global record for the DRIEST storm eye ever observed, surpassing Super Typhoon Meranti (2016). The NHC is now warning that the eyewall’s destructive winds may cause “total structural failure, particularly in higher elevations, leading to widespread infrastructural damage, prolonged power and communications outages, and isolated communities” in Jamaica. The immense detonations of lightning throughout Melissa’s 175 MPH eyewall indicate that intensification is STILL somehow ongoing. The next recon flight into this CATEGORY 5 sawblade could be historic.

Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 6:52 AM: What you have witnessed yesterday and this past weekend across California and parts of Southern California is the birth pains of an El Niño development and the ongoing escalation the warming of the Pacific torrential rains came through the San Fernando Valley with such strong, thunderstorms that it caused significant flooding in the Sherman Oaks, Universal City area around 1:05 PM - 1:35 PM yesterday on April 13, 2026. This powerful storm packed winds gusts of over 50 mph and it’s a true testament that we are no longer in a pattern that brings rain in just winter time but is now extending into April and May and beyond with that said we have another storm on the heels that will be arriving very quickly on April 21 - 27, 2026. The next storm will also bring more heavy rain, thunder, and lightning, and yes, more snowfall to the local mountains. As the Pacific continues to warm, the weather will become more drastic with extreme heat waves and more unusual severe rain events for California. This situation will get quite scary if it continues to verify by the end of October and November with the super El Niño development and the atmosphere connecting something that we’ve not seen since 1982, 1997/ 1998. The main Marshall Islands low axis is already gearing up for this major event this year which you’ve seen an example already. The flooding in the Hawaiian islands. Typhoon Sinlaku has now hit the Guam region with a category five status this early in April all due to the warming of the Pacific and the emergence of El Niño. #CAwx
