NEW: Grand Rapids police officer suffers broken leg after passenger resisted extraction during traffic stop According to GRPD, during a traffic stop officers noticed the front-seat passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and repeatedly refused to provide identification or exit the vehicle. Officers ordered him out, but he continued resisting by bracing himself inside the car with his legs. During the struggle, officers struck the passenger until he exited, injuring an officer who suffered a broken leg and torn ligament. The passenger was booked into the Kent County Correctional Facility.

Brooklyn: West 20th Street & Surf Avenue, a man coming out of the Stillwell Avenue train station unknowingly stepped into an illegal cab that was already being watched by TLC enforcement. Officers moved in to initiate a stop, and the vehicle finally pulled over on West 20th Street between Surf Avenue and Mermaid Avenue. The traffic stop escalated immediately. The driver refused to hand over his documents and began arguing with the officer at the window. Inside the car, the passenger quickly realized he had walked into the wrong situation, he had an out-of-state bench warrant and wanted no part of a confrontation with police. As soon as the vehicle came to a full stop, he got out and distanced himself from the scene. Ohio has a "law" that "requires" a passenger in a vehicle to show their ID to officers during a traffic stop? What? 🤨 If I saw a story like this 10 years ago I would be confident that, when the law was challenged in court, that is would be tossed out at a rate of about a 99.999% probability.
