This is called Clear Air Turbulence, or CAT. No clouds, but the air is still bumpy because of: -Jet streams up high.. these fast rivers of wind (over 100-200 knots) slamming into slower air, creating invisible wind shear. -Mountain waves... wind blowing over mountains sends turbulence way up into the clear sky, even far away. -Gravity waves and air mass changes.. temperature shifts and different air layers causing hidden bumps. Wouldn't it be great if planes had better tech to actually see these waves ahead, like advanced LIDAR systems they're testing? The plane handles it fine , but keep your seatbelt on.

In all four of these great videos from 1970, Laithwaite showed that rotation of a special kind (called "precession") can lift against downward gravity, and even more so when the speed of rotation is increased! We have been using 3-phase power to make disc magnets spin rapidly, around and up a pole. Yet those changes only increase gravitational "potential" energy, and do not act continuously against gravity itself (as we need for a "flying UFO"). None of the systems studied by Laithwaite were "magnetic". He used a power-drill to make his gyroscopes spin. Our 3-phase systems are of course more elegant, but still we can learn a lot about gravity physics, by studying Laithwaite's old results! I will be trying next to incorporate his proven anti-gravity methods into our model devices, but am not yet sure how to do it. It is an "alien IQ test", one might say. We have to "solve" that test to "fly". 🛸

We know gravity pulls things together in space… but have you ever watched it work in phase space? In this scene we’re looking at a thin probability sheet in (x, v) position-velocity space evolving under its own self-gravity. In the collisionless limit, Liouville’s theorem says the sheet can stretch, fold, and swirl, but it can’t tear and it can’t change area. Any collapse in x is paid for by stretching in v. Numerically this is a 1D cold-dark-matter toy universe: a sheet of particles evolved under the Vlasov-Poisson system.
