The 1 Drill To Meet All Your Rebounding Needs Some coaches don't believe in doing rebounding drills. They believe they can emphasize rebounding in everything they do without isolating it. I love that in theory. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked that well for me in reality. Coaches like Tom Izzo and Kelvin Sampson seem to agree. Michigan State and Houston are known for being 2 of the best rebounding teams in the country. I don't think it's a coincidence that they prioritize practicing rebounding. If you want your team to be elite on the boards, you must drill it in practice. Here's a versatile and game-like drill from 3v3 Drills For Offense & Defense with Coach Nick LoGalbo that will help your team dominate the glass. Setup: -Position 3 players around the perimeter -3 defensive players are in the paint Instructions: 1. The coach begins by throwing the ball to an offensive player. 2. All of the defenders close out. 3. The player who receives the pass shoots immediately. 4. The defenders must box out and grab the rebound. 5. Play is live until the ball is scored. The rebounding team does not have to take the ball out. Thus, if the defense does a good job boxing out and gathers the rebound close to the rim, they can immediately shoot. This continues until a basket is scored. 6. Each basket is worth 1 point. Play to 5.

Chicago Bears: The Deep Ball Façade As a Chicago Bears truther, I gotta keep it 💯 There are many Bears fans posting “Amazing” out of the pocket deep ball highlights of Caleb Williams Obviously, we don’t see those kinds of throws everyday. It’s insane!! But deep ball playmaking isn’t new to Chicago. Nor is it the focal point of Ben Johnson’s offense. If the Bears are going to be great, we have to become more efficient from the pocket. Pass percentage must go up, time in pocket must come down. Living outside the pocket will hinder our ability to be efficient and to win a Super Bowl #1 Deep Ball was always there Justin Fields in 2023 had one of the most efficient deep balls in the league. Not only that, the majority of his deep balls came from the pocket which is what you want from your QB. As good as the Bears were as a whole last year, the deep ball was far more efficient in 2023. But living on the deep ball and living out the pocket comes with limitations. We have to focus on the fundamentals #2 Ben Johnson is the catalyst Similar to 2023, Bears offense in 2024 had explosive plays followed by inconsistent offense and inept situational football by the head coach Poor offensive line, poor offensive scheme, and inept head coach were the core issues. Ryan Poles thought QB was the main issue and then 2024 happened. We learned quick that it takes more than a talented QB to win football games. Ben Johnson has alleviated all of those concerns. He has made Bears offensive line the focal point! His scheme has been top of the league since he became OC in Detroit. And his situational football awareness far superior than Eberflus. Bears fans must recognize that Ben Johnson is the catalyst of the Bears offensive turnaround, and team success. Now give him what he needs! He wants 3 tight ends? Give it to him He wants more Luther Burden? Give it to him He wants more efficiency out of his QB? Let’s make that the focal point.. #3 Ben Johnson needs a point guard at QB Efficiency in the pocket, time to throw, and passing EPA are far more important to Ben Johnson’s offense than out of pocket deep balls. We need Caleb to be that killer still, but it’s the fundamentals that will allow Bears to take the next step. This offense doesn’t need a Michael Jordan at QB. Ben Johnson would much rather have an Isiah Thomas at QB because this offense has enough Bad Boys to get the job done. Feed the WRs! Get the ball out of your hands quicker! Allow deep ball to be the counter punch of the offense. #4 It’s all there.. The pre-snap awareness, post snap awareness, efficiency from pocket, and pass velocity all scream franchise QB. When you look at Caleb Williams in the pocket on short to intermediate passes, it looks effortless. The ball leaves his hand lightning quick, it’s placed where it’s supposed to be, and WR is able to make a play after the catch. We have to see more of this and it starts now. CW has to trust Ben Johnson’s offense and his WRs more. Conclusion: If we wanted a QB to scramble and throw deep balls, Justin Fields would still be a Chicago Bear What makes Caleb unique, is that he can be a hunter down the field but also has the upside to be a Drew Brees type of QB in the pocket. I rather see more clips of Caleb playing in rhythm and in the pocket , than deep bombs out the pocket. There will be struggles, but that’s ok. I much rather see our QB struggle making the right throws in OTAs than masking it with his gift as an out the pocket thrower.

Peyton Manning’s description from his Quarterback show is the reality of the job. Every play, the quarterback is the focus. He has to know the protection, the route concept, the defensive structure, the pressure indicators, the clock, the situation, and the responsibilities of ten other players while the stadium is loud and the pocket is collapsing. That is why quarterback development cannot be reduced to arm talent. A quarterback has to communicate clearly when no one can hear, solve the math problem before the snap, confirm the picture after the snap, and still deliver the ball with timing and accuracy. Then comes the part no drill can fully simulate. Win or lose, the quarterback stands in front of it. He gives credit when the offense succeeds and absorbs responsibility when it fails. That burden is not unfair. It is the position. There is only 1 starting quarterback for a reason. The talent threshold is high, but the command threshold is higher. The best ones are not just gifted throwers. They are accountable operators who understand that every snap demands structure, discipline, and ownership.

What a day at Royal Birkdale ☀️ Some notes on the course… 1) First time here. It exceeded my expectations. 2) Weaving layout is very cool. Never too far from the clubhouse yet intimate and moving in all directions. 3) Some great green sites embarked by sand dunes. Thinking of 2, 10, 12 and 17. Viewing spots for fans will be really good. 4) A LOT of changes. New holes, redesigned holes, bunkers. Going to be a very different course and look for players in July. 5) Not a huge fan of the new 14th hole but understand why they felt the need to add it. 6) Really like the new par three 15th. 240 from the back but a huge green the feeds balls similar to a Redan green. 6) Never really liked the iconic clubhouse design but it’s incredible inside. Loads of amazing pieces and photos. Lastly, the service of everyone at the club is noticeable. They didn’t know I worked for Golf Digest but everyone I spoke to was overly helpful, friendly and interesting/interested. Bring on July.

Batting average can lie. Just look at Luis Arraez. Yes, he can hit .300 and win batting titles. But his on-base percentage should be much higher than it is and there’s a reason why. He chases. Arraez refuses to walk. He swings at pitches out of the zone, even in key moments when his team desperately needs base runners. In this video I’m showing two back-to-back pitches where he swings at ball four. That cannot happen from a guy whose value is supposed to be getting on base. This is what I call a soft .300. The batting average looks great, but the impact is limited. He doesn’t drive the ball with authority. Low exit velocity. A lot of soft contact. And because he won’t take walks, he leaves OBP on the table. Imagine if he added discipline. If he simply took what pitchers give him, his OBP jumps and now you’re talking about a completely different level of player. Instead, you get a hitter who racks up singles in hot streaks but doesn’t maximize his value. High average. Low leverage. That’s the difference.

This happened today at the Cooperstown Village All Star Village in Oneonta, New York. The 12U championship game, 6-0 Alpha One vs 4-2 St. Pete Rough Riders National. Alpha One had just hit a grand slam home run to tie it 7-7 with no outs, and 5 minutes left. (They have a max game time clock) But the umpire called the batter out on an appeal for not touching home plate. You can see the batter jump and it’s hard to tell if he caught the edge of the plate, but he backs up and he looks like he touches the plate with his foot. What’s strange is you don’t hear any coaches telling the catcher or pitcher to appeal at first. However, you see the umpire talking to the catcher. They throw the ball to home the first time but no ruling is made. Then the umpire talks to the catcher again and they throw the ball home again on an appeal I’m guessing. The umpire calls him out. This is not a Rec league game, this is a travel ball championship where teams from all over the country compete and lots of money is spent. I personally thought it was very odd that you hear no one yelling to appeal and that you see the umpire talking with the catcher. In a still frame photo, to me, you can clearly see the batter’s right foot on home plate, imho. It should have been a grand slam. Alpha One feels they got robbed of the championship.
