🇺🇸 Fighter pilots have their own version of a white flag, and it's not what you'd expect. Dropping your landing gear mid-dogfight is the unofficial signal for surrender between fighter pilots. An unwritten code respected at 30,000 feet. During Vietnam in 1972, a MiG-17 pilot got locked onto by F-8 Crusader pilot Lieutenant Tucker and ejected mid-combat rather than fight it out. That wasn't a loss. Under international law, ejecting from a combat aircraft is a legally recognized act of surrender, and targeting a pilot after that point is a war crime.
