Hello. The state of the road will be monitored throughout the night and in the morning and it will be re-opened when deemed safe for road users to travel on. Please note this closure is in response to the Met Office Amber Warning for Snow for this area for tomorrow.

@metoffice Absolutely ridiculous closing one of the few cross pennine routes at midnight. There wasn't even a stiff breeze when I went over it just before then in a 44 tonne lorry. Funny how you're not closing the M6 at Shap which is going to be much worse when this storm turns up.

Millions of people across the country have been dealing with severe weather this weekend, as Lala brought strong winds and heavy rain to Hawaii and massive storms caused severe flooding in the Midwest.
