The deployment of National Guard members is legally permissible under certain circumstances, such as maintaining order during civil unrest. The Insurrection Act and related laws allow for such deployments, and the Posse Comitatus Act does not bar this if it’s for maintaining order rather than direct law enforcement. The president has the authority to federalize the National Guard under specific conditions. About the deployment of U.S. Marines for domestic law enforcement are legal. While the Posse Comitatus Act generally restricts the use of federal military forces for domestic law enforcement, there are exceptions, including the Insurrection Act. The deployment of Marines, if authorized under such exceptions, is not inherently illegal.
