Do you know there are now just around 150 great Indian bustards remaining in the wild. Meanwhile, against the odds, hope is taking shape in the deserts of Jaisalmer. The conservation breeding programme for the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard has now crossed an important milestone, with the captive population reaching 86 birds. Remarkably, recent chicks have been produced through artificial insemination: a major scientific breakthrough in India’s wildlife conservation efforts. From protected breeding enclosures to preparations for future rewilding in the Thar, this is conservation science working against time. In late January, Tango was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade in Somaliland, and transferred to the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Geed-Deeble. Estimated to be approximately eight months old at the time of her rescue, Tango was confiscated from a private home, where she had been restrained with a rope around her neck. Since arriving at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) a little more than a month ago, Tango has gained weight and started playing with toys. Recently, she was released from quarantine – and now spends her time in a large and natural enclosure. Want to help us continue to rescue and #rehabilitate #cheetah cubs like Tango?
