I'm with @jason on the effects of open source AI on Anthropic and OpenAI -- it's big. Surprised he said it so strongly -- but I'm on the same page. This sudden shift is a big, big deal.

We literally made the same argument for open source AI -- back in January 2026 -- in our State of TAO report -- using the same examples of the open Internet vs AOL.

Chamath never got to go into detail about what companies he thought would get killed or which ones would do well if the government did ban open source which he believes would crush the stock market. I'd like to know his thoughts on that. Even though I don't believe the government will, in fact, do that.

Open Source: Socialist gonna socialize and the socialist in the government are happy to jump in for money and information control. Anthropic is full of socialist. The closed source AIs have a place and will survive but they cannot be trillion dollar companies in a free world.

I agree with @chamath that foundational models is becoming commoditized faster than anyone expected. However, it maybe very hard to go one layer down for these model labs, but will it be hard for them to go one layer above to compete with other application layer players? I mean they have the talents for sure, when these models become commoditized, I suspect these labs can easily go after any app layer they see the chance?

Y’all are operating from the assumption that these socialist leaders are interested in the common good. Based on the DSA Platform, I believe they are setting the stage to usher in Communism and they know that will require the anarchy stage as Friedberg points out, just as it did in Russia and China.
