COACHES: This is a teaching clip you see at the higher levels of the game a ton on the importance of the discipline of F3. So many times you'll see F3 not reading the first two forwards low and screaming down too aggressively giving the opponent an odd-man rush the other way. On this clip, Washington's F3 shows discipline and patience, backing out knowing the first two forwards were caught low. This diminishes the opportunity for an odd-man rush and takes away good ice in the middle of the rink leading to no passing lanes. The Ducks end up turning the puck over and Sourdif the F3 gets rewarded with the goal. A talked about a ton at the higher levels of the game and a great teaching clip for F3!!

From a scouting perspective, Dach had a very impressive shift. He made an excellent defensive play deep in his zone to spin away from the opponent. Nice puck skills and speed exiting the zone, smart feed to Newhook on the rush, solid puck retrievals in the O zone, and chip to Newhook. A solid hit to take Fabbro out of the play went to the front of the net and bumped Fabbro away with the purpose of establishing a net-front presence. Even his shot was decent other than not raising the puck but that is often the case that close in...it was simply a great save. He also diligently got two more cracks at it, and had the right idea. Two more good saves. I loved that shift from him. If he does that consistently, he will start producing.

Great surf and defensive stick to force the dump from D2 - and then close support as D1 had heavy pressure. He's also shoulder checking. Great use of body to shield the puck from pinching D and outlet to C from the RW. Great low and slow support from the C behind the puck. Great job by the LW stretching out the opposing D creating the lane and space for D1 coming up the ice. Everyone shoulder checking. Everyone working to get up ice after their puck touch. If you go back and watch each player in this clip individually, it's beautiful. All of these little things add to a great breakout sequence that starts the play for the goal. An incredible clip to show your teams!!

7’3 18 year old Big Luigi Suigo has been one of the most impressive young players in Europe this season. So far for Mega Basket he’s averaging 11/4/1 and 1 Block in only 21 MPG while shooting 63% from the field and 47% from three on 3 attempts a game. Suigo has a strong mix of touch, shooting, and fluidity that most players at his height don’t posses. He’s currently shooting an impressive 80% at the rim and 47% from three which is among the best in Europe.

KIDS: This may be one of the most scathing clips I've ever done, but it's a great teaching point from a coaches perspective that I think is important for all young players to hear. This shift started with a faceoff at 12:08 on the clock. When Hall gets this puck midshift and chips it in, it's at 11:32 - 36 seconds later. Being on the ice for 36 seconds already - two or three of the Chicago players should change. But no. They are clearly tired yet decide to go and forecheck in the ozone anyway. And the effort on the forecheck and track here are absolutely abysmal. When a player extends their shift when the puck is going up the ice offensively in a situation when they're tired and should change, it's one of coaches' biggest pet peeves. All in all - it's selfish. And in this case, it ends up in the back of their net. Just look at the effort on the forecheck and the backcheck...yikes. I looked up the three players and how they're doing this year. All immensely talented players but between Hall, Bertuzzi, and Kurashev... They have a combined 18 games played and 4 points. On a team where Kurashev is fighting for a top 6 role and Hall/Bertuzzi were brought in to provide veteran leadership. This is one of those plays that gets highlighted in team video the next day. It can't happen. It's putting yourself above the team and not focusing on the little things that don't show up on the scoreboard that championship teams do. This is a culture teaching clip.

Been thinking a lot about the slice backhand. Where will the shot be in 10 years? Are young players getting away from it? Modern string tech has improved ability to hit quality drives from low contact points... Many of the best two-handers ATP side basically scrap the slice.

This is spot on. This isn’t about selling young players, it’s about the education they are getting in Academies: patterns of play, on repeat, across the country; no edge in games, no idea of the need to fight. So many good points in it.
