Russia FM Lavrov dismantled the Bahrain UN resolution on the Strait of Hormuz The resolution authorizes "all interested states" to take "all necessary defensive measures" in the Strait. But who decides what's proportionate? The same states authorized to act. "We know how our Western colleagues handled supposedly defensive Security Council decisions -- they turned them upside down and used them for aggression." These measures would also operate on the territory of Gulf coastal states who have no say in them. "A direct violation of their sovereignty." Then he uses Trump's own words against it. Trump said days ago that once military operations end, Hormuz navigation resumes normally. Lavrov: "So the problem isn't making demands of Iran -- stop the military operations." China is telling Gulf partners the exact same thing. Stop the war, navigation returns. The resolution doesn't even acknowledge Iran was attacked first. Pushing it through "in the midst of what the United States itself calls negotiations" will antagonize Tehran. So either someone wants to blow up whatever diplomatic process exists -- or the talk of negotiations is cover for another attack, "as happened in June last year and February this year." In that case, this resolution is retroactive legitimization of aggression. On Article 51: the US attacked Iran and called it "preventive self-defense" even though Iran never attacked them. Now Gulf states invoke the same logic. But Article 51 doesn't require a Security Council resolution. Gulf states can already act under it. So why push for one? Because this was never about self-defense -- it's about legitimizing future aggression. Lavrov says he asked Gulf leaders directly on a video call: "Did Iran actually attack you?" No. But they told him Iran has wanted to attack its neighbors for 70 years, and now that the US and Israel struck first, Iran seized the opportunity. It may sound technical, but for the UN it was a real revolution — and another example that Ukraine is fighting on every front and keeps winning, with true allies aren’t backing away. Every three years, RU — through Belarus — has pushed a resolution on “minimizing the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster,” avoiding any mention of UA and insisting on using the RU spelling Chernobyl instead of the correct Ukrainian Chornobyl. They also refused to acknowledge responsibility for the original disaster or for their current attacks on nuclear sites. For years, the UNGA passed this so-called “consensus resolution,” and even some of UA’s allies accepted it. But the UA delegation said no. They introduced their own resolution first, blocked every amendment from RU and Belarus, secured the vote, and then — thanks to Khrystyna Hayovyshyn — successfully moved to not even consider the Belarusian proposal since the UA one had already passed.
