Polyrhythm is the simultaneous use of two or more rhythms. Tapping exercises with the metronome are important to master the most basic of polyrhythms. And it's something that requires huge coordination. [📹 Débora Noemi / deboranoemisb]

Tapping triplets and doubles simultaneously is mind bending.

Profecient Level: Being able to tap out 3:2 and 4:3. Master Level: Being able to tap out 3:2 and 4:3 while reversing the sticking without missing a beat.

My son is a drummer and years ago he tried to show me this. Each of his hands and feet were doing a different rythym. It was amazing but my artists brain didn't work like his musicians brain. I can only use 1 hand and 1 paintbrush😅

I’ve never done these tapping exercises but I do remember learning 3 against 4 when I played fantasia impromptu in hs. I figured out where every beat landed by writing out 12, then noting where the beats fell and worked up the speed. Now it’s easy.

Errr.... that's the same rhythm... beating different notes to that one rhythm.

We experienced pianists have no difficulty whatsoever. 🎹 🎶

Neil Peart of Rush could do 4 different rhythms at the same time. 2 hands, 2 feet.

Brings me back to a full year of drum pad and tapping lessins before I was ever allowed to sit at the drum set.

Meshuggah does this well.

Now try Chopin’s Etudes.
