I'm in australia too but my nearby has not changed. Checked and there are no app updates available...

These are on other wayspots from ingress and other niantic games. Businesses and other poi from Google maps and also other poi sourced from a different map we don't know about.

Power spots do not convert other existing pokestops or gyms in the games. In fact they are appearing at Day cares, funeral homes, ambulance stations, people's home businesses and many other places Niantic has said you can't have wayspots at. This is a complete mockery of wayfarer
