This is what America and China are doing — building armies of skilled individuals. For Nigeria to compete with these great nations, we must take a page from their playbook. Scott Adams once said, “Every skill you acquire doubles your odds of success.” This is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and our Federal Ministry of Education strategy. That’s why we are aggressively reviving our technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system. We aim to equip young men and women with “life skills” that will enable them to be productive members of their communities, while also improving their employability and career opportunities. TVET is one of the cornerstones of our 6-point agenda to reform our education system. We will be creating opportunities for our young Nigerians both men and women to give them life skills to improve their employability irrespective of their level of education — from basic education to tertiary institutions. A skilled workforce is key to President Tinubu’s vision for the nation. We will also be adding to our TVET curriculum life skills in Renewable Energy (Solar), compressed natural gas (CNG) and mechanised farming to also support PBAT’s agenda of ensuring food security in our country. We are working to build a better nation for the next generation.

Following the assent of a landmark Executive Order by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in June 2024—which provided tax and tariff waivers on the importation of raw materials for pharmaceutical production—and with the President’s thoughtful guidance and the Federal Executive Council’s final approval, the Federal Republic of Nigeria has launched MediPool, an unprecedented and historic intervention in the nation’s pharmaceutical landscape. MediPool is a key deliverable under the Renewed Hope Health Agenda—a flagship component of President Tinubu’s broader commitment to build a fairer, equitable, more resilient and self-reliant health system for all Nigerians. It reflects the administration’s resolve to move beyond emergency stopgaps and institutionalize structural solutions that deliver real and lasting impact. This bold policy innovation, designed as a public-private partnership, leverages the federal government’s purchasing power to secure better prices from domestic manufacturers and suppliers. MediPool’s wide-ranging mandate includes procurement planning, supply chain and logistics management, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, financial oversight, and structured support for local pharmaceutical production. I am pleased to share this overview of a transformative national initiative. With the approval of MediPool, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again demonstrated clear, courageous leadership in confronting the longstanding challenges of affordability and access—bringing hope to millions of Nigerians who have too often borne the dual burden of illness and the high cost of care.
