This would be all CGI now and would look infinitely worse for it. Amazing what they pulled off back in the day with clever puppetry and stop motion animation.

Peak!!!

Timeless!

Rear Screen is rad.

The stop motion one is creepy as hell

Love it so

@Bob_Scott74 Love it. Practical FX were great in the 80’s.

That movie still holds up.

After watching this movie when I was a kid. I wanted to build me a T-800.

Still looks better than CGI. 40 years later - still nightmare fuel.

Best part is it's stop motion. Works perfectly

💯✨

One of the best scenes and false endings in movie history.

I actually watched T2 first when I was a kid and watched this one and loved it more, still do. I remember when it got to this scene I said to my parents “man I wish we could have seen him as the machine” and BAM, forever stuck with me.

Rear projection and stopmotion

I love how right at the beginning of this clip, to the right of linda hamiltons head there is a guy thay comes up behind the fire to pull a lever to activate the terminator skeleton. Still take it over cgi any day

Time to run away and hide or FIGHT!

No CGI in my childhood

The smoke flowing out of the Terminator when it is crushed in the hydraulic press is actually cigarette smoke.

The 1984 budget for this film was $6.4M. Adjusted for inflation that's just $20.5M. Budget is not an excuse to choose CGI over practical effects.

Growing up is realizing Terminator 1 is better than Terminator 2

The practical effects at the end of Terminator are fricking million times scarier than any CGI. The scenes after this one are so terrifying, with the way the robotic body spasmodically moves and the great camera work.

i'll be back
