If there was ever a perfect film, it's TOOTSIE. A book on the making of TOOTSIE changed my screenwriting forever. Reading Sydney Pollack break the entire story down as, "a man who dresses up as a woman and becomes a better man" was perhaps the key moment that led to more consistency in my work. A light bulb went off. THAT is how you define a story. Two points about the screenplay: 1) It has a fun structure with how the hero gets what he always wanted at the midpoint, only to realize he's trapped by it. Ratatouille does something similar when Remy and Linguini are the toast of Paris, but their success makes everything worse. If I am having trouble with the midpoint, "What if I just give them what they always wanted?" remains a fun possibility for me. 2) There are few actual jokes in Tootsie. It is played less for laughs and more for truth, trusting that playing it as truthfully as possible will be the source of the laughs. This is how someone like Pollack, who Dabney Coleman described as, "Not the funniest guy in the world," made one of the best comedies ever. Needless to say, a lot of help from Murray Schisgal, Larry Gelbert and Elaine May, all brilliant in their own right. The scene here between Dorsey and his agent George still makes me laugh and I must have seen it 100 times. I love this movie. An all-time classic.

📌 #Japan 🇯🇵 A NIGERIAN MAN STEPPED IN TO PROTECT A VULNERABLE JAPANESE WOMAN ONLY FOR THE WESTERN INTERNET TO RACIALLY PROFILE HIM AS THE DANGER. Aruberuto Makoto, a Spanish streamer living in Japan who makes IRL content, was filmed following and bothering a visibly intoxicated Japanese woman for FIVE minutes. According to translations from Spanish speakers, he and his cameraman also allegedly made disturbing sexual comments about her during the interaction. A Nigerian man who had been minding his own business eventually stepped in and tried to protect her. Instead of recognizing and respecting what he did, people online began racially profiling and demonizing HIM, creating completely unsubstantiated narratives involving drugs, prostitution and criminality. That is what disgusts me about this entire situation. The heroic African man who stepped in to help her from danger while the behavior actually shown in the footage is being overlooked. We need to protect Asian women from being fetishized, sexualized and exploited by these YT tourists.

This was my FIRST time on a mini ex. My good buddy flew into TN & laughed at me the whole time. Worth a watch with sound on. To answer the question: If I were getting into this “grading driveways” as a side hustle gig, I’d rent a mini ex from a local rental place first (they’re everywhere). Practice on your driveway or in your backyard first. One thing I learned with ZERO experience operating these 6 yrs ago: the best way to learn to use them is to just… “get in the seat and do it”. Practice until you’re comfortable, then throw some “I grade driveways and spread gravel. Free estimates” on FB Marketplace. Call the gravel/stone yard, ask how much to deliver per load, add a couple hundred bucks to that per load when you price a job. Go price a few jobs from leads. Rent the size mini ex you need. Probably will need a Cat 303 size for small jobs. And just do it. First few of them you may underprice, or it may take you twice as long as it normally would. But the fact is…practice makes perfect. With each new opportunity you’ll get better and better at it. I would not invest a ton in equipment right off the bat. I’d rent it until enough jobs come in that will fund the purchase of a small mini ex or skid steer.

RIA reports that Siberia-based American-born farmer Justas Walker, widely known in Russia as the 'Happy Milkman,' has been summoned to the migration service after saying his family had been told they were being expelled from the country. Walker said the news had left the family “in a state of shock.” “We absolutely don't want to leave Russia. That is not our wish,” he said. “We want to live here, continue building, continue investing.” He said the family had put almost everything they had saved into developing a farm and eco-camping project in Altai this year. If they are forced to leave, Walker estimates lawyers, appeals, paperwork and plane tickets could cost around $11,000. “At the moment I have about $5,000 available,” he said, adding that the family might eventually need financial help. OPPRESSORS TURN PEOPLE OF COLOUR AGAINST EACH OTHER For centuries, imperialists have sought ways of turning oppressed people against each other. This not only makes the oppressed forget who the actual enemy is, but it also turns us into cannon folder during wars of imperialist aggression. In this 1993 clip, renowned singer and actress Eartha Kitt (1927-2008) explained how the US military-industrial complex fomented hatred between US-based African communities and other Global South people to attract Black people into the US military to fight wars in countries such as Iraq, Vietnam and Korea. Kitt highlights how, after our people returned to the US, they were provided with no financial support, while forced to live under discriminatory Jim Crow laws that prevailed up until the mid-20th century. This makes it clear why the likes of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali refused to be drafted to fight in Vietnam. When questioned, Ali famously declared, ‘I ain’t got no quarrel with them Vietcong. Most teachers in this country are regularly observed as part of their professional development. Two thirds of teachers do not think this has made a difference to their actual practice. Teachers do not understand the feedback they receive. They do not agree with the feedback they receive. They do not feel willing or capable to implement the feedback they receive. These things are facts, and they are both worrying and upsetting. And none of this is a secret. We all know it, we've all experienced it. When we asked Carousel Teaching users what topics they wanted us to make courses on, the most common response was "how to observe lessons and give feedback." Ben Rice and I are now MAD EXCITED to announce our How To Observe a Lesson and Give Feedback course. It's mega. We filmed a bunch of lessons, and we also filmed me observing those lessons. Severely sleep deprived. Heightened anxiety. OCD kicking hard. Over committed to plans that I WANT to do, yet my body is rebelling. Halp. Here’s some insight into a time consuming, shoulder-breaking, tedious yet necessary daily chore that takes hours - just prepping my birds pellets, grinding them down with a stainless steel muddler, to cater to their preference for smaller pieces. Last night in Kawangware, I met this man whom I initially thought was a security guard. After speaking with him, I later came to learn that he is a Nigerian national currently living on the streets. Whenever I meet someone living on the streets, I always take time to engage with them, understand their story, and learn how they ended up there. My goal is always to see how best I can help them rebuild their lives. During our conversation, he shared that he came to Kenya after receiving a promise of sponsorship from his cousin to continue his education here. However, after only two weeks in the country, his cousin who had promised to support him left for the United States without enrolling him in school, leaving him stranded in Kenya. As we continued talking, he explained how he struggled to survive and eventually ended up living on the streets. He has now been on the streets for about two years. In one of the videos I recorded, a lady reached out to me and said she recognized him. According to her, they once lived in the same apartment building. She narrated how the man had been in a relationship with a lady who allegedly took everything he owned. This incident deeply affected him, pushing him into depression and eventually to the streets. The man also shared that at one point he worked in Dubai, where he used to send money back home to support his parents in Nigeria. However, when he later returned home, he claims he discovered that he had been deceived by the very people he trusted. He gave me his parents’ contact, although we were not able to fully hear their side of the story. Currently, his travel documents have expired, and he expressed that his biggest wish is to renew them so that he can return home to Nigeria and start life again. I offered to use my platform to help fundraise for the renewal of his documents, as he personally requested. He also asked if I could help him secure any form of work so that he could at least sustain himself as he waits to regularize his documents. However, after spending time with him and assessing his situation, it became clear to me that he urgently needs mental health support, as he appears to be struggling with depression. I therefore decided that the following morning I would take him to a private rehabilitation center where professionals could assess him and offer the help he needs. After we agreed on this plan, I took him to a hotel where he could spend the night safely. I paid for his room and food, intending to pick him up the following morning and take him for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, later in the morning I received a call from the hotel attendant informing me that although the man had slept well, he left the guest house very early in a hurry. Later reports indicated that he had been seen back on the streets. Since then, efforts to locate and rescue him have not been successful. I am informed that he rarely accepts help from people, which makes the situation even more challenging. If anyone happens to see or locate him, please kindly contact me through +254707946783 so that we can assist him, take him for rehabilitation, and help facilitate his return to his home country. I am also appealing to his fellow Nigerians living in Kenya, those back in Nigeria, and well-wishers both in Kenya and abroad come through for him and support the effort to give this man a second chance in life. I'm sorry for the pause but regularly scheduled programming, but notice what exercise these grannies are doing at 89/91? Yup, the deadlift. The fitness industry is full of snake oil, but one of the biggest deceptions is discouraging the basic compound movements of deadlift and squat. The number of times I've heard the deadlift isn't worth the risk/reward, how it's going to mess up your back etc. No, the deadlift is what makes your back strong as you age. The biggest change to your body is that you start losing muscle mass, your bones have less and less support, including your spine. The deadlift puts an iron rod of muscle around your spine. I've had aches and pains around my back for more than a decade---regular weekly deadlift and squat fixed all of it. I haven't had so much as a tweak since I started lifting heavy. Here is me at 41, lifting 375 at 165lbs. We saw Christopher Waller lift the same at 67. This is what will help you age comfortably, not some random new fitness trend. With all that, you need good form. Get a trainer, practice light over and over again, and only when it's comfortable should you start loading it up. Everyone's *good form* will look a bit different, e.g., my back looks rounder than some others', but this what is more comfortable than a straight back for me. Once you have that down, you'll have the best anti aging hack out there.
