Britain's grid engineers are sounding the alarm. NESO insiders, the people responsible for keeping the lights on, say operators have "lost control of the system" and that a major blackout is now an "engineering certainty." One whistleblower said, "We're flying blind with the plane on fire." Engineers claim repeated safety breaches have been concealed and that NESO is rerunning its models to declare the incident secure after the fact. The problem is structural. Britain has replaced large controllable power stations with thousands of weather-dependent wind, solar and battery installations, many of which the control room cannot properly see or control. Engineers must now balance the grid in real time using incomplete information. They say they have been asking Ofgem to intervene for two years, but nothing happened... Today I started a 4-day oversight visit to our borders to assess the welfare of SANDF troops, the state of equipment and facilities, and the conditions under which our soldiers serve. We will be focusing on Mpumalanga and KZN for this round. This visit forms part of our ongoing efforts to improve the conditions of service and ensure that those who protect our borders are properly supported and equipped.

Today is Thank A First Responder Day. Here’s a little throwback to spending the day with Rural Metro Fire in Tucson, Arizona and trying on some of their gear. Today we share our gratitude for first responders and their families. Their hard work and sacrifice keeps us all safe. We are proud to be hosting a great day at Australia Zoo for all first responders with Fortem Australia. And Thanks again to rural metro, they shared knowledge of how they fight fires and keep the community safe, and we shared some tips on the best ways to rescue rattlesnakes out of homes!

I was at Aba to inspect a couple of roads that are undergoing rehabilitation. I am happy with the progress of work, particularly at Cemetry Road. The contractor has also taken the initiative to desilt the drainage system, which demonstrates their commitment to ensuring a long-lasting and sustainable road infrastructure. It is worth noting that the rehabilitation efforts extend beyond Cemetry Road, with a total of nine roads currently undergoing partial and comprehensive rehabilitation. All the roads are being handled by reputable companies, including CCECC, Craneburg, and MCC. Regardless of the weather conditions, we remain dedicated to the task of rebuilding Aba for the benefit of our people.

Happy 4th of July? Millions of Americans think they’re celebrating 250 years of “freedom” today, but what they’re really celebrating is 250 years of corruption, endless war, and a capitalist system that exploits the many to enrich the few. The uncomfortable truth is none of us in the U.S. are free. We are owned by banks, exploited by billionaires, and controlled by two parties that sell us out at every turn. Freedom is just the illusion they sell to hide the cage and prevent people from ever questioning the dictatorship of capital that controls, exploits, and monetizes every aspect of our lives from birth to death. Where is the freedom when a handful of billionaires [and a trillionaire] hoard ungodly fortunes through the mass exploitation of our labor and the mass extraction of resources that belong to our communities? Where is the freedom when our tax dollars fund endless wars, genocide, and the mass murder of children abroad all to further enrich the billionaire class? Where is the freedom when 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and struggle to afford basic needs like housing, healthcare, and groceries? Where is the freedom when 75% of Americans can’t afford a median-priced home, 100 million Americans live with medical debt, and 140 million Americans are poor or low-income? There is no freedom here. We are all prisoners of a decrepit capitalist system that keeps us trapped in the rat race by demonizing the one economic system, socialism, that would put the economy in the hands of the people. We actually took a walk around that area a few weeks back, along with our Ministry of Detail clipboard. For one of the boxes we had to queue for a good while as there were so many people wanting a photograph with it. The conditions of the boxes varied but very few were in a reasonable state. Clearly right that the number of times people experience a place should factor in to prioritisation of their maintenance. It makes us think of other “civic facades” like airport arrival terminals and train stations - often the first impression you get of a place.
