Premier Danielle Smith insists the new lowered threshold for citizen referendums being announced the day after a Liberal federal election win was purely coincidental.

Justice Minister Micky Amery says the new rules would be about letting Albertans who currently have issues they'd like to address to be able to put them to a referendum quickly.
