🚨 “We Have Crooked Elections.” - President Trump on the SAVE America Act Our reporter Cara Castronuova asked President Donald J. Trump: “Why do you think Senate Democrats are resisting the SAVE Act? And what is your strategy and realistic pathway to getting the SAVE Act passed to ensure free and fair elections for the next generation?” POTUS responded: “It’s such a great question. I appreciate it, actually, because it’s called the SAVE America Act.” “The Democrats are against it… we’re trying to save America.” He then laid out what he called “three very simple points” in the bill: • “Voter ID, photo ID.” • “Confirmation of U.S. citizenship. You have to be a citizen to have a vote.” • “No mail-in ballots… with the exception of disability, illness, military, or if you’re traveling, you can get an exemption.” And he closed with this: “That will assure the security of our crooked elections. President Donald Trump, when asked Tuesday about the possibility of federal agents at polling places during the November midterm elections, told PBS News’ Liz Landers (Liz Landers) that he supports "anything" to ensure "honest elections." Federal law bars the deployment of “troops or armed men” at polling stations and prohibits voter intimidation. The Department of Homeland Security told state officials earlier this year that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will not be present at voting locations during the midterm elections. Yet other Trump administration officials have not unequivocally knocked down the idea. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said earlier this month that he was “not sure of the uproar of the risk of having a Border Patrol or an ICE agent at a polling location, or looking into whether somebody is voting that shouldn't be.” Federal law prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections; some municipalities allow them to vote in local elections.

WATCH: After Republican legislators in Indiana joined with Democrats to vote down a plan to redraw the state's congressional map on Thursday, President Donald Trump said he would support a primary against a GOP state Senate leader. The 31 to 19 vote in the state Senate rejected the congressional redistricting effort that Trump has been pushing Republicans to support in order to help maintain their majority in the U.S. House after the 2026 midterm elections. Twenty-one Republicans joined 10 Democrats in opposing the new district lines that could have potentially given Republicans two more seats. When PBS News Hour's White House correspondent Liz Landers asked Trump for his reaction to the vote, the president criticized Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray. "I heard he was against it," Trump said. "He'll probably lose his next primary, whenever that is. I hope he does, because he's done a tremendous disservice." Trump added later that he would "certainly support anybody who wants to go against him." After the vote, Bray said in a statement that while Republicans in the state senate want to see a GOP majority in Congress in the 2026 midterm elections, "the issue before us today was how to get there, and many of my caucus members don’t think redrawing our Congressional map mid-cycle is a guaranteed way for Indiana – or our country – to achieve that outcome.”
