Proactive vs Reactive We are 10yrs+ without using any insecticidal pour-ons with our cows. As u can see, cows are clean and rub free. Our success is through genetic selection and grazing management rather than reactive measures of harmful chemicals that disrupt profitability.

How do you genetically select against lice and internal parasites?

I’m thinking there’s more to this story than genetics.

Yes, that’s why I included management along with genetics.

We’re at 7yrs but I will use diatomaceous earth. Last spring a few of our angus that were new to the herd in late 2019 were a bit patchy for a few weeks but they all have beautiful, shiny coats at this point.

We stopped using ivomec on our cows and herd bulls but still do sale bulls. Can’t afford to take a hit on bulls cause there rubbing hair off. Most years cows look good but this winter we’re seeing more hair lose. Stopped 5 yrs ago on cows.

How long will you let those pastures rest before you go back to them? What’s your annual precip average?

We have moved mostly to a once over system. So typically close to a year recovery. Some ground will get grazed twice in a year but those would be situations where we graze stockpile in March/April then again late summer/fall.

Your Mercy Requested, Please Read! Firstly, we would like to apologise for the long gap in regular postings. You all eagerly wait to see our lovely cows and calves but despite our best tries, we couldn't keep up with the posting. We are really sorry for this. The primary reason for this gap is that we are fighting a grave crisis right now. The foul evil of Lumpy Skin Disease has returned to the gausadan and its dastardly shadow has engulfed our herd. It has afflicted around 40 cows and bulls right now in the gausadan with no sign yet of any slowdown in its wicked march. Aa you all are aware - Lumpy Skin Disease is a terrible infection which is immensely debilitating and extremely painful to the afflicted cow. It has no cure and only its symptoms can be treated over repeated cycles of their occurrences. This crisis has left us physically exhausted, mentally troubled and financially drained. The current expenditure for just the medical treatment is touching as high as 50,000 INR per day further weakening our position. But we are not giving up! Our afflicted Gau Matas and Nandis are courageously facing this painful disease and we are standing right with them. We are fighting with all our might and serving our beloved gau vamsha with all our being. In this hour of need, we have come to you with a humble request - please think of supporting these beloved companions of Krishna! Any contribution from you - big or small, will surely strengthen their fight against the infection. With bhagwan's krupa and your support, we are certain of turning a corner and vanquishing this most foul of diseases. Hare Krishna!
