Trump has already created the perception among business leaders that concentrating their manufacturing in China is a problem. Many of these businesses will build in the U.S. That’s unequivocally a good thing for America. Others will relocate to countries that don’t represent a security risk to the U.S. That’s a win as well. Now consider the politics of the debate - Trump has positioned himself as the champion of jobs for working class Americans. Democrats reflexively opposed him. With the stock market now roaring back, sentiment will improve and Trump will win this issue in the minds of the working class. Democrats can whine all they want about Trump’ style causing chaos, but the Democrats had the opportunity to negotiate better trade terms when Joe Biden was in office and they did nothing.
