Profiling at its peak

📽️All American (2018 TV series), Season 2, Episode 9.

This All American S2E9 scene hits hard because it feels familiar to so many. Spencer and the crew standing outside after a misunderstanding between brothers, two cops (one Black, one white) rolling up demanding IDs, assuming loitering/gang ties. The escalation, the "you fit the description," the frustration, it's written to mirror real tensions in places like Crenshaw.

In real life, racial disparities in police stops are well documented. Black drivers are stopped more often than whites relative to population (and sometimes driving behavior), and once stopped, they're searched at higher rates often 1.5-2x or more. Yet "hit rates" for contraband/weapons are frequently lower for Black drivers than white ones in many datasets. That gap suggests bias plays a role in some decisions, beyond just crime patterns.

Brother just give him your id… This shit is so cringe

You’re calling it cringe because you’ve never had to think twice about a police stop. That’s the difference.

Why would I need to? I’ve been pulled over many times and it always goes smoothly. I’m not about to say “just hand over your ID if you’re not doing anything wrong” because that’s tyrant speech, but there were so many ways this could’ve easily been resolved. Obviously there will be some outliers and nuances, but it almost never plays out like that in real life anyway. It’s a super exaggerated scenario. We don’t live in the ’90s anymore.

@mighty_abbey If I’m not being detained or arrested I don’t have to show my id unless it’s a lawful order or again I’m under arrest that’s the law so I’m not showing my id if I don’t have too simple 🤷🏽♂️ if you can’t understand that then idk dawg

Did you watch the video? He literally stated the reason for the detention: reports of a fight. Whether that probable cause holds up or not is exactly what court is for. Yeah, the video is obviously exaggerated and we don’t have full context, but if the call was real and he matched the description, a judge could easily rule it valid PC. You debate it in court, not on the street. We could potentially rack up additional charges if the cop happens to be in the right. It’s an unnecessary gamble. You’re coming at me like I don’t get it, but I’ve got a solid grasp of my rights and how the system actually works. Do YOU?

@mighty_abbey Bruh I’m not coming at you in any type of way I think your taking it a type of way I’m just saying that I don’t have to Id myself if I don’t need too. To be completely honest with you idgaf about the system and how you have the grasp of it 🤷🏽♂️

@bencamedown2x @yxngaltpolo @mighty_abbey Yall are arguing w a nigga who’s first post is “If Druski could do it, they can too” referring to white ppl doing black face. Yall are talking to a brick wall, just leave the coon alone

@bencamedown2x @mighty_abbey Oh look, we have a fucking liberal retard who probably thinks that Black people can’t be racist. If I’m the brick wall, then you’re the mortar. Get out of your feelings and think critically dumb bitch

Ask for his business card and his bond and see if that tuff police cop shit carry on.

In theory that sounds nice. In real life, escalating like that in the moment can make things worse, not better.

Innocent people don’t need to show ID. Racial profiling

At its peak

Why not give the ID instead of making this so messy?

Crime isn't evenly distributed. In many urban areas, homicide and violent crime rates are disproportionately high in Black communities (both offenders and victims), which drives more policing there. Officers respond to calls and patterns, not just stereotypes. "High crime area" stops aren't automatically racist they're risk based. But poor execution (pretextual stops, disrespect, over-escalation) breeds resentment and the exact dynamic in this clip.

Of course another bullshit propaganda crap. We need a white Dubai to not live around scum.

You feel this is propaganda? Anyways you can’t understand it until you experience it.

Why won’t he just cooperate?? The store owner profiled you, fine, but now the cops have a job to do, just cooperate with them?? It was good there was a black cop there too, otherwise they’d have allege full blown racistt

He was cooperating. Questioning how you’re being treated isn’t the same as resisting. That’s the whole point.

The officer asked him to show his ID like 3 different times, he never did or explain he’s not carrying his ID, that’s not cooperating

And he questioned why he was being stopped in the first place. That’s not a crime.

This is getting messy, just give me the ID! 😩

@SW33T_NOVEMBER It’s not that easy! Legally he doesn’t have to. They had no reason to demand for his id. This was just straight up profiling

Scenes like this are powerful because they humanize the friction. What do y'all think, does the show get the nuance right, or lean too heavy one way?

Solutions aren't slogans. Better training on de-escalation, clearer policies on when to demand ID/loiter (reasonable suspicion matters), body cams for accountability, and community investment to lower crime at the root. Ending all proactive policing would spike disorder in the neighborhoods that need it most.

@Olamilekan4275 The public should be able to deal directly with police officers like this by any means necessary.

Isn’t Reggie Wright the same cop that used to be Suge Knight that they said was a Blood

N suing N?

All American spencer james the real story

Stop Wanna Shoot all the time and do stuff correct fcking Dweeb.

This scene hits too close to home. The ‘you fit the description’ line always escalates everything

That “fits the description” line is exactly where things shift from normal to tense. That’s what makes it real.

Real frustration in this scene — the ‘you fit the description’ + ID demands hit home for many.

Facts. It’s not just the request, it’s how the whole situation builds up to that moment.

Why is it hard to give an ID test making things messy

Well, I didn't see anything wrong with the ID request. Should have shown it to them and watch what happened next.

@MovieStrictly Showing ID isn’t the issue on its own. It’s being stopped in the first place based on something vague! that’s where people have a problem.

Same Hollywood garbage as usual, black people victims, cops bad, white people privileged, complete garbage

PunkPoliceBeingApunkAsUsual

This is how white cops treat the blacks This is not just a movie or a propaganda, it's a real life scenario.

Imagine Just an argument in the store and you profile him as a gang what is really wrong with this police

That’s the frustrating part. A simple situation gets escalated just off assumptions.

Really bad

The cop told him, we need to see some ID

And he questioned why he was being stopped in the first place. That’s not a crime.

Powerful scene, tensions like this feel real in high crime spots. Cops need reasonable suspicion, not just ‘fits the description,’ and everyone has rights.

Exactly. That’s what made the scene hit how fast “fits the description” turns into real tension. Rights exist, but in moments like that, it doesn’t always feel equal.

I really enjoyed watching All American

Same here. Scenes like this are why it stands out feels real, not just entertainment.

The cops are clearly wrong but when a cop asks me for my id I don’t even think about it. I shut my mouth and give them My id. So many of these interactions could have diff outcomes you comply

The tension was really high here… why is it an issue to show ID, is it possible to use it against them

I love how racist always say comply. But they never think about the fact that no one should be above the law. So why should officers be allowed to break the law?

Is this the TV show all American?

And a black always his brothers enemy

Most black people do not go through this in real life. I’m tired of oppression being sold to me.
