Cinema has a profound impact on the minds of people, creating role models for the youth to follow. It is time for entertainment to instill values, bring positivity, and foster a sense of belonging, especially as loneliness and hopelessness rise globally. (1/2)

Seeing Top Gun & then Maverick immediately after yesterday at The Grove was an experience I’ll never forget. The ability to see one just minutes after the other- in IMAX- had such a profound effect on me. Tom Cruise & Val Kilmer were each so damn good in both films. Cinema lives.

Gift of 2 Language Policy of TamilNadu Ilayaraja the pride of Dravidian Land // 81 Years Young – Still Chasing a Symphony Dream He left his humble village of Pannaipuram 65 years ago, driven by an unrelenting passion for music. Even today, at 81, he continues to chase that dream—now set to unfold on the grand stage of London, where he will perform his long-cherished symphony. The world watches in awe as this extraordinary man, a proud son of Tamil Nadu and the Dravidian land, prepares to etch his name among the greatest composers of history. We owe the privilege of celebrating this legend to Tamil Nadu’s steadfast two-language policy, which not only nurtured Tamil cinema but also allowed Tamil film music to flourish alongside Hindi cinema and its musical legacy. Every progressive political decision of Tamil Nadu has ultimately empowered the sons of its soil—nurturing talents like him to shine on the global stage. Best wishes once again, Ilaiyaraaja. Though you now serve as an MP for the BJP, to us, you remain a true Tamil, a true Dravidian. We eagerly await the day your symphony stands alongside the masterpieces of Mozart and Beethoven. In this century, you are the only Asian, the only Indian, and the only Dravidian to have reached such an esteemed place in the world of Western classical music. With profound love and respect, We Dravidians.

Sidney Lumet on why he found himself drawn to adapting Stage plays into movies: "The writing is better in the theater. I love language. When I first began in television and early in my film directing career there used to be arguments—in the forties and fifties—that there had been no real cinema art since sound came in. Well, since sound is here, I want the best in sound. If words are going to be used, I want the best in words. Playwrights tend to write better language, more revelatory language, more profound language, than most screenwriters. I don’t have any particular theory on adapting stage works to film. I take them one at a time. I didn’t ‘open up’ 'Long Day’s Journey into the Night' (1962) at all, except for that scene on the porch, which was important, given the title. I don’t believe in opening it up if you lose tension, lose characterizations or lose the story. | opened up 'Deathtrap' (1982) very, very little because it would have let the tension out. It’s a psychological thing. Confinement can work for you." (Sidney Lumet's interview with Kenneth M. Chanko, 1984) On this day, 44 years ago, "Deathtrap" (1982) premiered in New York City, USA.

Martin Scorsese on the greatness of Mel Brooks: "There's a lot we take for granted but we shouldn't and one of them is the treasured tradition of classic American Film comedy. In Mel's films all bets are off. The boundaries between what's funny and what isn't kind of fade away or tumble like that sheet falling in 'It Happened one Night' (1934). Mel breaks these boundaries with laughter. These boundaries actually disintegrate before your eyes at the end of 'Blazing Saddles' (1974). Telling a joke is one thing, making it part of a cohesive hole is something else again. And that's where the filmmaking comes in. His Mastery of filmmaking; Mel has an anarchic Spirit but a loving heart and his films come from a profound fondness for Classic Cinema and a deep understanding of it. His uniquely manic sensibility is hardwired to something it's so easy to miss because we're laughing so hard and that is his extremely disciplined Mastery of the vocabulary of film. Mel has made his own comedy his own way and reminded us yet again that it's all too easy to forget you can be a great filmmaker just for laughs." How 'Beef Parotta' Became A Part Of "Kerala's Culture?" Today, ‘beef curry’ and ‘parotta’ are proudly flaunted as Kerala's culture. It can be seen everywhere, from the speeches of political leaders to Malayalam cinema. But was it always like this? Definitely not, it was forced into Kerala's cuisine, and ultimately its "culture." To know how, read or watch the following. Like the rest of India, the Hindus of Kerala held profound reverence for the cow, and there is a great deal of historical evidence to prove this. Famous foreign travellers like Ibn Battuta and Abdur Razzaq clearly wrote in their travelogues that slaughtering a cow in Kerala was the greatest crime, punishable by the most gruesome death. However, reverence for the cow has now become an exception in Kerala. And it is not because cow worship was not a tradition in Kerala, but because a systematic de-Hinduisation and de-sacralisation of public life has been carried out here. If we look at British records of Kerala, the slaughter of cows by Moplahs in Malabar at that time was the biggest cause of frequent Hindu-Muxlim riots, as the British refused to intervene on behalf of the Hindus. During the Moplah Riots of the 1920s, there were countless incidents where Muxlims ofnormalisation Malabar slaughtered cows in temples and forcibly fed beef to Hindus to convert them. Because the rule of the Hindu Zamorin kings ended early in Malabar and a majority of the Hindu population was converted to Islam, cow slaughter and beef consumption became commonplace in this region. Conversely, in Travancore, cow slaughter was completely banned, and in Cochin, it was severely restricted. Thus, the roots of beef normalisation in Kerala lie in the Muxlim-majority Malabar. By the 1920s, due to British patronage and their dominance in the timber trade for shipbuilding, the Moplah Muxlims of Kerala began to become economically empowered. Since Malabar was a coastal region, these Muslims had been trading in Burma and Malaysia since the beginning, and with the Gulf Oil Boom of the 1960s, they not only earned wealth in Gulf countries but also strengthened their religious orthodoxy. Meanwhile, the exact opposite was happening to the Hindus. Kerala saw the formation of India's first non-Congress government, and it was a Communist one. The Communists launched sustained ideological attacks on the sacred religious beliefs of Hindus and began to desacralize or secularize all traditional institutions. Since Christians and Muslims had gained a demographic advantage due to forced conversions, they collaborated with the Communist state to undermine Hindu beliefs. For instance, the "land reforms" of the 1970s severely broke the stronghold of the traditional Hindu elite. Following historical patterns, they began to openly offend and humiliate Hindus in Malabar using cow slaughter and beef with full state support. A prime example of this is the portrayal of beef in Malayalam cinema. As long as the cinema was dominated by middle-class and upper-caste Hindus, beef was never shown, because it was simply not a part of their culture. However, as soon as Muxlim and X-tian producers, directors, and writers established a foothold after the year 2000, they turned the forced reality of ‘beef-parotta’ into a symbol of Kerala’s food culture. And as a result of this sustained propaganda around beef in 'popular culture' (cinema, theatre, media, etc.) by the Ixlamo-Marxist next, an average Malayali Hindu who consumes all this media started believing in the narrative of beef (cow meat) as part of Kerala's culture. This systematic and exaggerated propagandist portrayal on the reel started influencing reality to a significant extent. Although even today, the majority of Hindus in Kerala do not eat beef, it remains a largely political act. However, the normalisation of beef in Kerala is a clear-cut example of how Communist and Abrahamic ideologies can subvert any native culture in a very short span of time.

In Remembrance of JAMES DEAN. Born | February 8, 1931 in Marion, Indiana, USA. Died | September 30, 1955 (aged 24) in Cholame, California, USA. Video | James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor in the epic drama film, Giant (1956), directed by George Stevens. James Dean became one of the most influential figures in Hollywood in the 1950s, and his impact on cinema and popular culture was profound, although his career lasted only five years. He appeared in just three major films: Rebel Without a Cause (1955), in which he portrayed a disillusioned and rebellious teenager; East of Eden (1955), which showcased his intense emotional range; and Giant (1956), a sprawling drama. He was killed in a car accident in 1955 at the age of 24, leaving him a lasting symbol of rebellion, youthful defiance, and the restless spirit. For his role in East of Eden, Dean became the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. The following year, he earned a second nomination for his performance in Giant, making him the only actor to receive two posthumous acting nominations. In 1999, he was honored by the American Film Institute, being ranked as the 18th greatest male film star from Golden Age Hollywood on their “AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars” list. Time magazine recognised Dean in 2012 as one of the “All-Time Most Influential Fashion Icons”. Dean's film roles and style had a strong impact on Hollywood, capturing the spirit of 1950s youth and creating an enduring legacy that helped shape American pop culture and define rebellious, countercultural attitudes for generations.

In one of the most valuable scenes in the film, Tracy’s ex-husband, C.K. Dexter Haven (Cary Grant), bravely reveals the greatest flaw in her soul. Her subsequent confession is both profound and deeply moving: “I don’t want to be worshipped like a goddess. I want to be loved as a real woman, of flesh and blood.” Tracy, a beautiful, wealthy, and seemingly perfect heiress, has placed herself on the highest moral pedestal. Cold, judgmental, and completely unforgiving of any human weakness, she divorced her husband because of his alcoholism and disowned her own father for his infidelity. She lives like a “bronze statue” — dignified, rigid, and distant. The film does not celebrate this modern, hardened pride (often mistaken for female empowerment). Instead, it quietly exposes it as a profound tragedy of the human soul. Older audiences love and cherish this moment precisely because it reaffirms an ancient truth: elevating oneself above others as if one were divine is not strength, but the deepest form of spiritual blindness. Recognizing Human Weakness In this scene, Dexter expresses a thought-provoking truth: it is Tracy’s very strength — her contempt for weakness and her absolute refusal to forgive — that has turned her into a cold and distant goddess. The moment when her final tears fall and Tracy accepts her own humanity — acknowledging that she too can stumble, get drunk, or act foolishly — is truly touching. By recognizing the hidden weaknesses in those around her (her father, her ex-husband), she begins the path of genuine humility — the noble virtue that connects the soul to both the Creator and fellow human beings. Traditional generations have always cherished this grace of humility. The True Meaning of Love and Marriage Ancient nobility always placed the highest value on the sacred institution of marriage and family. The film offers a timeless lesson about choosing a life partner. Tracy’s fiancé, George, is a self-made man who worships her as an ideal image — a decoration, a perfect symbol to advance his political ambitions. He does not love the real woman; he only worships the image. In contrast, both Dexter and the journalist Mike see her as her true self. They dare to confront her flaws, but are also willing to forgive her when she falls. This is why the scene resonates so deeply with traditional emotions: true marriage is not built on mutual admiration of perfection or appearances. Such love is built on understanding, compassion, and generous acceptance of each other’s imperfections. This kind of love carries a sacred spirit — Agape — selfless, forgiving love preserved by tradition. Additional Aristocratic Charm: The refined Anglo-American accents and elegant demeanor of Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant further enchant the audience. The voice of the old upper class — polished in prestigious boarding schools and luxurious salons — is not merely a tone; it is the sonic expression of a golden era of cinema. An era that honored beauty, elegance, moral clarity, and linguistic precision . 📽️Katharine Hepburn - Philadelphia Story(1940)

The Dance of Emptiness In Sweet Charity (1969), Bob Fosse brought to the screen one of the most haunting dance sequences in musical cinema history: “The Rich Man’s Frug.” The number takes place at the Pompeii Club — a cold, glamorous nightclub where the upper class gathers in artificial elegance. Charity, the simple and naïve girl played by Shirley MacLaine, stands as an outsider watching it all unfold. The performance is divided into three distinct sections. The opening, “The Aloof,” presents dancers in minimalist black-and-white attire, dark sunglasses, long cigarette holders, and cold, distant stares. They move with sharp, angular, almost mechanical gestures, completely ignoring one another. In the second part, “The Heavyweight,” the rhythm grows more intense, with sudden bends and sweeping arm movements that seem to hold back suppressed tension. The final section, “The Big Finish,” explodes into complex group synchronization before abruptly freezing back into the same haughty, elegant poses. Bob Fosse rejected the soaring, graceful style of traditional Broadway dance. Instead, he built his signature language around turned-in knees, isolated body movements, sharp isolations, and unexpected stillness. While Cy Coleman’s music drives forward with brass and percussion, the dancers often freeze completely, their faces expressionless. That contrast creates a visual tension far more powerful than continuous motion. Watching this sequence, I do not see the joy of a party. I see a group of people trying to prove their superiority through studied detachment. They stand side by side, moving to the same beat, yet no one truly looks at anyone else. Behind the fur coats, expensive cigarette holders, and carefully polished gestures lies a profound emotional emptiness. What has kept this number alive is not only its technical brilliance. It has deeply influenced Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, and generations of dancers who followed. But more than its chic, eccentric beauty, “The Rich Man’s Frug” continues to unsettle viewers because it reflects a quiet truth: glamour can often be nothing more than a mask for loneliness. In today’s world, where so many people carefully construct cold, perfect images on social media, Fosse’s dance still feels like a reminder. Charity stands on the sidelines, slightly lost but genuine. And it is that genuineness — not the perfectly programmed performance — that allows a person to truly live rather than merely perform.

In the countless iconic moments of “Roman Holiday” (1953), there is one fleeting detail that quietly surpasses them all. In the final press conference, Princess Ann is asked which city she has loved most during her tour. Before replying, she pauses. Her gaze drifts, ever so briefly, towards Joe Bradley. Only then does she smile and answer: “Rome. Definitely Rome.” The entire moment lasts mere seconds. Yet it has become one of the most enduring and cherished endings in the history of classic cinema. The real question is not why this scene moves audiences so deeply, but why such a tiny glance can carry such profound emotional power. The answer lies in a sequence of layers that descend from the surface of cinema to the very depths of human nature. The first layer is cinematic technique itself. A pause. A glance. A reply. Director William Wyler entirely avoids any overt display of emotion. There is no declaration of love, no tearful embrace, no sobbing. Audrey Hepburn performs almost entirely through silence. The camera does not force emotion upon the viewer; it merely observes with quiet restraint. Precisely because everything is held in check to the utmost degree, that single brief glance becomes the emotional centre of the entire scene. Yet the glance is only the outward expression of something far deeper. Why does Ann look at Joe before answering? Not because she has forgotten the answer. Nor merely to confirm their love. What Ann truly accomplishes in that instant is to complete the final farewell that neither of them can put into words. It is the last time they will look upon each other. The last time they acknowledge that the days they shared were real, beautiful, and now belong forever to the past. Only after silently accepting that truth can Ann continue forward in her role as princess. Thus the glance is not the cause of the emotion; it is merely the visible sign of an invisible decision within her heart. It is the decision to return to the path that duty has laid before her. But this leads to a still deeper question. Why does that decision resonate so powerfully with audiences? Because the scene touches one of the most fundamental human needs. Human beings long to be loved, to belong, and to find a place where their lives hold meaning. At the same time, as we mature, we all face moments when not everything that is good can be kept. Sometimes two precious things conflict, and to hold one means having to release the other. Audiences recognise this experience long before they can analyse it with reason. Many have faced choices in which the heart wished to go one way, yet responsibility, family, conscience or duty led them another. Roman Holiday gives this universal experience a concrete and unforgettable form. Yet the film reaches even deeper than psychology. The power of the scene does not lie in the sadness of separation. It lies in the beauty of voluntary sacrifice. Neither character is defeated. Neither is coerced. Ann freely forgoes her personal happiness in order to fulfil her duty as a princess. Joe freely abandons a scoop that could have transformed his career in order to protect Ann’s honour and dignity. What makes them noble is not that they obtained what they desired, but that they willingly relinquished what they loved most in order to preserve what they believed to be right. That is the moral centre of the entire film. On a deeper philosophical level, Roman Holiday reflects an ideal long cherished in traditional human culture. The nobility of a person is measured not only by how far they can pursue personal happiness, but also by their capacity for self-mastery, loyalty to duty, preservation of honour, and placing the common good above private desire. Thus the film does not portray sacrifice as failure. It portrays sacrifice as the elevation of character. The final glance between Ann and Joe is beautiful because it preserves both love and dignity. Neither destroys the other. There remains, however, one final layer of meaning that some viewers may sense. Many traditions of spiritual cultivation and thought hold that within every human being there exists a higher moral nature — a part oriented towards selflessness, compassion, truthfulness and goodness, rising above selfish immediate desires. Different traditions name this nature differently: some call it the Divine Nature, others the Buddha Nature, while still others simply regard it as the noblest aspect of human character. Viewed through this lens, Ann’s choice is not merely the performance of duty. It is the expression of that noble nature. She places her family, her nation, and the people she is responsible for serving above her own happiness. This is not only responsibility. It is also altruism. In many traditions of cultivation, such choices are seen as bringing a person closer to the truth of the universe. When human beings rise above selfishness, release their attachments to personal gain, and live in accordance with their innate goodness, they are gradually returning to their original true nature. Some traditions call this “returning to the origin and restoring the fundamental.” Others describe it as returning to the Creator or to Heaven — understood as the ultimate source of life. Whether or not viewers share this spiritual interpretation, it helps explain why the ending of Roman Holiday has retained its power across generations. For in the end, the film is not merely about a princess who loses her love. Nor is it simply about the choice between love and duty. It touches something far deeper in human nature: A person becomes most noble not when they obtain everything they desire, but when they voluntarily choose goodness over selfishness, responsibility over fleeting desire, and sacrificial love over possession. That final glance is merely what we see. Behind the glance lies farewell. Behind the farewell lies voluntary sacrifice. Behind the sacrifice lies the aspiration to live in accordance with the noblest part of oneself. And because Roman Holiday reaches this profound depth of human nature, a single glance lasting only a few seconds has been enough to move audiences around the world for more than seventy years.

A Plea for Difficult Images (A small rant about what I think art is today) Why does the contemporary art world embrace the ugly, the every day, the absurd, the nonsensical, and the visually and conceptually challenging? Why is that? You know this is the case because, 5 out 10 times, you come out of a contemporary art museum asking: What just happened!? What the f*** is this? Why is this art? Well, it is a long story, but let's start with something basic, like, pretty, beautiful images have been done ad infinitum up until the 20th century. Every pretty sunset, cityscape, landscape, still life, and portrait has been done before to perfection. You just need to open up a history of art book, and you will find hundreds of examples of pretty images. The challenge for artists after the invention of the photographic camera, which rendered things so perfectly, was to see other things. The challenge for artists today is to see the world differently: ugly, weird, absurd, unrecognizable. The artist´s mission suddenly became to ask questions and to think and represent differently: art is the place where we can have no certainty; where it is ok to make no sense and just present questions. Beautiful things still get made. Cute is still a thing in 21st-century art, But for completely different reasons. Beauty is not done for beauty's sake, but to challenge why we would, after thousands of years, still want to see beautiful images. Abstract art was once a f*** you to the establishment. But ever since the world tamed it, abstract art has become decorative at best. The last moment or revival of this form was called "Zombie Formalism" for it´s complacent visuals with "modernist and expressionistic styles,” which worked perfectly to please collectors interested in flipping works of art they did not understand from emerging artists who essentially crafted hundreds of generic images indistinguishable from one another. Contemporary art has moved into a space where artists tend to challenge art and beauty. They´ve become philosophers of the image, and in doing so, they have left many viewers perplexed and confused as to what exactly it is that they are witnessing or supposed to connect with. It seems that art today asks viewers and collectors to go on the same trip that the artist has gone through: understand thousands of years of art, read all the books that questioned why that was all made, and experiment with them in what can be considered art today. For those curious about art and collecting, they usually come to art with a blank slate and arrive at pretty pictures and, as many viewers for thousands of years, enjoy what they are looking at. The creators of those pretty pictures call themselves artists, and so it seems the system works. But when those pretty pictures escape the niche they are produced in and try to mingle with the contemporary art world, rarely do they become accepted, because, the museums, the informed collectors and the contemporary art market ask the questions of why pretty pictures again? Why today? How is this advancing our understanding of art? How is this commenting on all we know about art? What are these poster-looking, perfectly designed illustrations proposing to the art world that we have not considered before? And so those questions need to be answered for pretty images to be seen as art. And pretty is not only an aesthetic concept, but it is also about the intentions and the way the artist is capable of expressing his artistic intent. You can have “pretty intentions,” and that, too will be challenged. Simple themes, simple concepts without historical and conceptual rigor, are torn down and debunked because why do we need pretty artistic intentions anymore? Why do we need to see images based on explorations of color or form, self-portraits as an exploration of self, the line between reality and fiction, and the list goes on... These ideas have already been explored to the depths of their possibilities and those explorations became movement in the past. To go down that path again is a matter of practicing or studying to be an artist, but the contemporary art world rarely could see this as a proposal to move forward the world of art. So, you see, a plea for difficult images is a plea to be committed, respectful, thoughtful, and innovative. We cannot move forward, as in all practices that thrive on “the new,” without committing to understanding and challenging what came before. Science asks this of us, technology asks this, literature asks this, and cinema, too. We need pretty images, but they should only be a path to something way more profound. To do and understand art takes time, vulnerability, and a willingness to change… not everyone is willing to take that path. (Healed by Jess Mac)

$Gandalf and the Awakening of King Théoden: When One Person Returns to Their True Place, an Entire Kingdom Begins to Heal Some moments in cinema are remembered for their spectacular visual effects, epic battles, or breathtaking action. Others, however, leave a lasting impression without relying on grand-scale conflict. All they require is one person rising at the right moment. Gandalf's liberation of King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is one such moment. What gives this scene its enduring emotional power is not magic or Gandalf's confrontation with Saruman, but a principle that runs throughout Tolkien's world: When what is right is restored at the center, the order of the whole begins to be restored as well. For Rohan's greatest problem was never simply the enemy beyond its borders. At a deeper level, the one who stood at the center of the kingdom was no longer truly himself. A King Who Still Sat on the Throne, Yet Had Lost the Center When Gandalf enters the hall of Meduseld, Théoden is still seated upon his throne. He is still the King of Rohan. He still wears the crown. Yet true authority no longer belongs to him. Peter Jackson conveys this decline through remarkably subtle details: Théoden's aged appearance, his clouded eyes, his weakened voice, and above all, the constant presence of Gríma Wormtongue at his side. Gríma does not seize the throne by force. Instead, he occupies the place of influence beside it, whispering into the king's ear year after year. This reflects one of Tolkien's recurring portrayals of evil: it does not always begin with overwhelming power. More often, it begins by distorting perception until people lose the ability to recognize the truth. The problem, therefore, is not simply that Théoden has grown weak. The true center of Rohan has been displaced. When the one entrusted to lead can no longer act according to his own will, the fracture does not remain within a single individual. It spreads throughout the kingdom. Gandalf Does Not Create a New King The remarkable aspect of Théoden's deliverance is that Gandalf does not grant him new strength. He does not transform a broken man into a different hero. He simply removes the darkness that has been obscuring the man Théoden has always been. This reflects another central idea in Tolkien's world: Goodness does not create a new nature. It restores what has always existed beneath the shadows. Théoden has always been a king. He has always possessed courage. He has always carried responsibility for Rohan. Gandalf merely helps him return to the place he truly belongs. And when the one at the center is restored, the healing of the kingdom can finally begin. Herugrim: The Return of Responsibility The most unforgettable moment of the scene is not the burst of light from Gandalf's staff. It is the moment Théoden receives Herugrim, his sword, once again. At first, his hands still tremble. He looks upon the sword as though rediscovering a part of himself long forgotten. But as the blade is slowly drawn from its scabbard, the transformation becomes unmistakable. His back straightens. His eyes become clear. His voice returns. This is not merely the moment when a warrior regains his weapon. It is the moment when a king reclaims his responsibility. Gandalf opens the door. But Théoden is the one who walks through it. He is the one who takes up the sword. He is the one who chooses to rise. Because true restoration can never be imposed from the outside. It must ultimately be completed by the one who has lost their rightful place. When the Center Is Restored, Everything Around It Changes Peter Jackson expresses this transformation through an exceptionally subtle visual detail. Before Théoden awakens, Gríma always stands beside the throne. He occupies the place closest to power. He is the voice the king listens to. But once Théoden becomes himself again, the composition of the scene changes completely. Gríma is pushed away from the king. He retreats down the steps. Then he leaves the hall altogether. Without a single line of explanation, the film communicates something profound simply through the arrangement of its characters within the frame: Order has returned. The one who truly belongs on the throne once again occupies the center. The one who never belonged there no longer stands at the heart of power. The True Power of Awakening Ultimately, what makes this scene unforgettable is not Gandalf's magical duel with Saruman. Nor is it simply the rescue of a king. Its enduring power lies in the way it expresses a timeless principle: A community cannot truly heal while its center remains wounded. Théoden rises before Rohan rises. One person is restored before an entire kingdom begins to recover. He does not need to become a different hero. He only needs to become Théoden once more. And when what is right is restored at the center, hope returns to Rohan. That is why Gandalf's liberation of King Théoden continues to be regarded as one of the most meaningful moments in The Lord of the Rings. It is more than a victory over darkness. It reveals a truth that reaches beyond Middle-earth itself: Sometimes the transformation of an entire world begins with a single person returning to their true nature and rightful place.$
