PSA to anyone living in the Claude Code CLI for remote work: the desktop app connects over SSH. Your servers, VMs, dev containers, etc. Remembered this after a full night of homelab upgrades in a terminal like a caveman. Doh! Don't be me.

If you’re going as far as to use SSH just use CLI 😂

No it doesn't work for those seeing this, been annoyed with this. Chats vanish, prompts vanish, agents streaming is wrong I'm annoyed with this (unless they fixed it)? I doubt.

With Claude Code CLI I can have a bunch of windows open on my monitors at once and just look at them to see updates. With Claude Code Desktop I think I can only have one open at a time and need to switch chats to see updates. Is that right?

You can have a bunch of sessions open with desktop and easily switch between them. IMO the UI is much nicer for working on multiple things on the desktop

Makes sense. I do like desktop app - it’s tighter integration with web & iOS development is nice. But only being able to see one session without switching means it can’t be my primary yet. Also still anxiously awaiting easy work/personal account switching on mobile 🙏🏼 Thanks!

That's silly. Just have your claude code sessions run within systemd and use /remote-control to connect to the mothership.

That’s good, but the desktop app is too slow and buggy still. It’s difficult to use; running a CLI is like running a plane while desktop app is like an old train

Why do you need to connect remotely?, send your prompt and sandbox-cli can do work for you.

the real remote-work upgrade is being able to run the desktop app against the machine doing the actual work.

The SSH feature is half-baked.. the remote control feature is the way to go

sorry for dumb reply, didn't considered security caveats from perspective of managed environment - external SSH. Regardless great feature for Desktop

or you can use the Boxdown CLI and it auto-configures all of that SSH thing for you automagically (supports Codex / ChatGPT app too!)

Just use the browser version instead of desktop, it's the same thing but you can tab back and forth easily.

Same SSH tunnel is why cron jobs on a remote box can quietly outlive the terminal session that spawned them. The Claude Code Full Operator Stack

How do you call out sub agents from other vendors? I like running codex for discovery or grunt work and returning to opus 5 or fable for review. Still possible??
