Drip-drops in the dark. This is the tunnel of the Manchester & Salford Junction Canal from 1839. It lies under the Great Northern on Deansgate. In World War II it was converted into bomb shelters. It's a mysterious and fascinating place, so it's a crying shame the tunnel is not open to the public. It would be a huge tourist asset. Very conservatively I guess it would attract a minimum of 50,000 visits. The owners of the Great Northern are denying Mancunians and visitors the opportunity to visit an important and impressive location in the city. By the way this video is from a couple of years ago.
