We want to take a moment to applaud the courage of our CAIR-Texas team. The very next day after Governor Greg Abbott issued his unconstitutional and defamatory proclamation, the CAIR-Texas team went to work as usual while signing off on a federal lawsuit and preparing to testify at a state Board of Education hearing in defense of student rights. Before that hearing started, security warned members of our CAIR-Texas team that a suspicious individual had entered the building and demanded to know if any CAIR leaders were present. While this man was searching for our staff, the CAIR-Texas team was given the option of leaving the building with a police escort. They declined. Each of them stayed and delivered their testimony. As a civil rights organization, CAIR was founded to both shield the American Muslim community from hate and protect every American's right to exercise free speech, practice their own faith, and speak up for justice here and abroad. Being a shield means taking arrows. CAIR-Texas has been a shining example of courage under fire and an inspiration to our entire organization, alhamdulillah (praise and thanks to God). We applaud them, we stand with them, and we encourage all Americans to continue speaking up for due process, free speech, and religious freedom in the face of Greg Abbott's latest attempt to silence critics of a foreign government. Today, CAIR CAIR National sent out a press release attacking me, and at their GALA in Tampa, FL tonight where Jihadist Sami Hamdi Sami Hamdi سامي الهاشمي الحامدي was set to be their keynote speaker until he was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement today in California for supporting Islamic terrorists, CAIR claimed they raised $1.2 million tonight by opposing me. See press release here: The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has been identified in federal proceedings as having historical financial and organizational ties to Hamas—a designated foreign Islamic terrorist organization—and the Muslim Brotherhood. Despite these documented connections, CAIR retains its status as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Today, CAIR issued a press release criticizing my advocacy efforts to get Jihadist Sami Hamdi deported from the US. ICE turned her over to local police because what they were doing was so clearly wrong. This is what is happening in America. A small-town police chief had to intervene to stop federal agents from disappearing an unarmed woman for observing them. If ICE feels comfortable pulling guns on unarmed citizens in small towns, chasing them, throwing them to the ground, and ignoring the law entirely, then no town is too small and no one is safe from ICE brutality. This is a developing situation. — Video analysis provided by Josh Brooks : Cell phone footage recorded near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue shows members of ICE attempting to clear a blocked road during on-going operations in the Minneapolis area. It's unclear exactly what caused the individual driving the vehicle to block the road, but it's likely that the person was attempting to impede ICE operations in the area which is fairly normal for downtown Minneapolis. After several seconds, the vehicle in question attempts to drive away from the ICE agents that are confronting the driver.
