And these schools are just training students how to pass tests to meet mandates instead of implementing progressive methods like adaptive learning. They’re stuck in the past training kids for a world that no longer exists. It’s an institutional problem.

Public schools are not cooked. Kids whose parents don't regulate their child's social media are cooked. If you think private schools are any better, you're wrong. They're paying for grades and accomodations and getting into colleges bc of legacy and need aware admissions policies

Books aren’t required. Seriously, just had our son working from home and all he had was a Chromebook. I requested hardback books of the material. They had 1 US History book available for the entire school to be used when needed, and they had to find it. It’s a big problem.

Woah I’ve naturally did this in my household (keep as much tech as I can away) and in one semester of pre k, they are trying to push her towards Montessori 🤯

Years ago when we started homeschooling I read several articles on how the silicon valley people did NOT let their children have any tech until HS. They knew it was addictive and problematic.

Ban private and charter schools and that'll fix the situation. Once the rich have skin in the game they'll correct the problem.

It started about when I had just graduated back in 2015. Then the Covid pandemic hit and crippled, educationally speaking, the newest generation with at-home schooling on tablets. I’m seeing younger adults I work with presently having this exact problem. They cannot do for themselves, what they haven’t been directly instructed to do. No free thought on any course of action, just deference to an authority figure or someone who knows better.

My daughter's high school banned phones post pandemic. The graduating classes since then went to Ivys or T-20 colleges...

Seeing kids with their iPads in public is depressing they probably don’t experience boredom ever in their life

Already seeing this in the workforce. Critical thinking aptitude test results are plummeting and employers are overwhelmed with the degree of training they’re having to do just for basic critical thinking and communication skills. Especially seeing this in the trades and manual labor markets where companies are struggling to find incoming talent to replace retiring labor force.

When i was in the Air Force i had to mentor the new airmen fresh out of higshschool and when i tell you the CIA won bro they are not ready or developed to think beyond their fucking nose

I’m not sure blaming technology makes sense. Public schools instituted grade inflation policies, passing everyone, and began refusing to discipline students. Now we see shock that kids don’t pay attention, do very little work, and aren’t actually being educated. They show up in the later grades unprepared. Hell, even elite universities are reporting freshman that can do basic math or read a book. Why would I blame iPads for a kid barely being able to read, instead of the school system passed them knowing they could barely read? Why should we be surprised by the lack of effort when the only real standard public schools have left is attendance?

Doesn’t have anything to do at school it has to do with the parents. Schools don’t have your kids on YouTube and Roblox 30-40 hours a week, uncoordinated n lacking comprehension skills lol

I work at a go kart place. I'm very concerned about the future workforce. Some of these kids have zero ability to think critically. You must do it for them. Helpless if they gotta problem solve a situation.

This all starts and ends at home. The home is cooked

Idiocracy is our current reality. The vast majority of kids in U.S. schools today are from functionally retarded parents.

Incoming freshmen are less capable every year. Many blame AI, Covid learning loss, tech addiction… This divide is growing. Whatever the reason, the college administrators care only about recruitment, retention, and graduation rates, so these kids will graduate with worthless degrees and be completely incapable of meaningful work. I’m homeschooling my kids and don’t plan to send them to college.

As a future teacher ai will never ever ever ever touch my classroom and I will push against it as hard as possible in pd just so this shit doesn’t happen
