In one of the #Bengaluru's biggest heists, domestic staff allegedly decamped with gold, diamond and silver jewellery worth an estimated Rs 18 crore from a builder's residence at ASK Lake Garden on #Kempapura Main Road in #Yamaluru recently. The accused are a Nepalese couple identified as Dinesh (32) and his wife Kamala (25). According to the complaint filed by Shimanth S Arjun (28), a businessman, the theft occurred between 9 am and 12.30 pm on January 25. Arjun, son of MR Shivakumar, told #MarathahalliPolice that his family has been residing in the house for the past 19 years. His father Shivakumar, a builder, was out of town for work at the time of the incident. Dinesh and Kamala had joined as housekeepers about 20 days ago through acquaintances identified as Vikash and Maya Vishu. They were employed at the house along with cooks Siddharama and Ambika. On January 25, at around 9 am, the complainant, along with his wife and mother, left the house to attend his wife's land worship ceremony at H Cross on Hoskote-Chintamani Road. At around 12.38 pm the same day, Arjun received a call from the cook Ambika, who alerted him that cupboard locks had been broken and valuables stolen, allegedly by Dinesh and Kamala with the help of others. When the family rushed back, they found that a locker in the ground-floor bedroom had been broken open using an iron bar, with about 10 kg of gold and diamond ornaments stolen. Another locker in the first-floor bedroom was also found broken, from which around 1.5 kg of gold ornaments, about 5 kg of silver jewellery and Rs 11.5 lakh in cash were missing. In all, gold, diamond and silver ornaments and cash worth approximately Rs 18 crore were reported stolen. The complainant alleged that the couple had closely observed the movements of family members in advance. Police have registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master). Efforts are on to nab the absconding couple. A senior police officer said the suspects had disconnected the power supply to disable CCTV cameras. The complainant further told police that the couple were replacements for regular domestic staff Vikash and Maya and had agreed to work for a monthly salary of Rs 27,000. Despite repeated requests, they did not submit identity proofs.

Investigators believe the financial burden, along with the couple's strained circumstances, played a key role in the incident. Police said Shwetha and Kenneth, both engineering graduates and former classmates, had been in a live-in relationship for over a year, which they had kept hidden from their families. The relationship came under strain after bank recovery notices related to Shwetha's loans began reaching her family's residence in Marathahalli. In the days leading up to the incident, Shwetha's mother reportedly visited the couple's apartment after receiving the notices, followed by her father and younger sister. Police said an argument broke out over the loan issue, which soon escalated into violence inside the apartment. Neighbours reported hearing screams around 10 pm on the night of the incident, after which Somasundar was found bleeding on the staircase. Following the killings, Shwetha allegedly fled the scene, prompting a massive manhunt that led to her arrest earlier. His main activities included brokering jobs abroad for individuals and companies under false claims, as well as operating a hawala racket through shell companies. Investigations revealed that Harsh Vardhan had previous links with Chandraswami and international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. In 2011, he was also found with an illegal satellite phone, for which a case was registered at Kavi Nagar Police Station. Items recovered include: 1.Four Luxury vehicles with diplomatic number plates 2.Twelve diplomatic passports of micronation entities 3.Forged documents with the seal of the Ministry of External Affairs 4.Two forged PAN Cards 5.Thirty-four seals of various countries and companies 6.Two forged press cards 7. Investigation is continuing & searches are being conducted at the premises of the accused. 📍Earlier in February 1, 2020, another Senior Accountant, Yumnam Sarat was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (India) following a raid at his Wangkhei Angom Leikai residence as well as his office. According to CBI, he had amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of ₹ 1,40,37,387 between 2010 & 2019. During the search at Wangkhei Angom Leikai, a large number of bank passbooks, 78 pension books, ATM cards, cheque book, documents of immoveable properties, insurance documents & cash amounting to ₹ 31,14,710 & multiple gold ornaments were seized. 📌 During interrogation, Sarat admitted that he had purchased a three storey RCC building at Wangkhei Angom Leikai at ₹ 1,19,00,000 crore in 2016. He also admitted that he also bought another multi-storey RCC building which was still under construction at Hafiz Hatta, New checkon. 📍On October 16, 2020, the CBI also carried out a similar raid at the residence of another Senior Accountant, Konjengbam Ibothem & recovered incriminating materials from his residence & office, including ₹54,45,930 in cash, 63 tola & one san of gold jewellery, 130 pension passbooks, 185 bank passbooks, 127 ATM cards, 124 cheque books, 10 sale deeds, two gift deeds, one mortgage deed & 18 Jamabandi documents, among other items. According to the CBI chargesheet, Ibothem, while serving as Senior Accounts Officer in the office of the Principal Accountant General (A&E), Manipur, was found in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income amounting to ₹3,54,47,233 for the period between August 1, 2005 & September 30, 2020. 📌 As part of a follow up probe into related cases, CBI raided another residence of senior Account officer Budichandra Naorem in Imphal & recovered Rs 5 lakh in cash, gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh, land purchase documents, among others from the Uripok Ahanthem Leikai.
