One of the best pieces of advice I ever got in my Jiu-Jitsu journey… When I was a blue belt juvenile, some of my training partners kept saying I was using too much strength. In my mind, I didn’t think I was. My instructor came to talk to me and asked, “Bernardo, are you using too much strength?” I said, “I guess so, since everyone is saying it.” Then he asked, “Are you getting tired?” I told him, “No, I have good cardio and I have been training and lifting a lot.” He looked at me and said, “Then keep using your strength.” That advice stayed with me forever.
