Bumblebees don’t understand glass - they get confused and trapped and exhausted. And they die. Likewise with polytunnel plastic. So if you see or hear a #bumblebee buzzing and banging against a window in your house SHE NEEDS YOUR HELP - AND QUICKLY! She’s in trouble. 2/11

So you need to act fast. Don’t leave her suffer while you do something else (with good intentions to get to her at some stage - which you might forget). Why? Bumblebees, even with a full stomach, have about 40 minutes of ‘energy’ in them before… 3/11

…they need to refuel with nectar. If she spends 30 minutes frantically flying against your window that doesn’t leave much in the tank! So that small kind act of simply walking over and helping her out makes a huge difference. Likewise in your polytunnel or glasshouse… 4/11

…bees pollinate much of your food/flowers so the least you can do is to spend a few minutes at the end of the day making sure any trapped #bees are helped out. This is even more important at this time of year as it is predominantly #bumblebee queens that are on the wing. 5/11

EVERY QUEEN THAT SURVIVES IS A COLONY THAT GETS TO EXIST. A bumblebee queen sits on her first batch of eggs to keep them warm but she also has to forage whilst doing this to maintain the energy to survive and to create the heat. If she gets trapped and so delayed on these… 6/11

..foraging trips then this first brood of eggs may perish and the colony fail. IF SHE DIES THE COLONY FAILS. So just a small bit of awareness, vigilance and timely effort by you could save a queen bee. Save a colony. Think about this: If the queen you save founds and… 7/11

…maintains a successful colony which produces even 10 new queen #bees which subsequently go on to establish 10 new colonies the following year then YOUR KIND ACT WITHIN 5 YEARS THEORETICALLY COULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR 10,000 BUMBLEBEE COLONIES! We call it #BeeToThePowerOf10. 8/11

When helping her out always be careful and patient. If the window doesn’t open you can use a glass/piece of card to gently catch her. In polytunnels a kid’s fishing net or butterfly net is great and grow flowers she likes just outside the doors to attract her back outside. 9/11

Please #retweet/#share this to LITERALLY HELP BEES OUT. I’m not on here for likes but for impact. So I’ll only ask for retweets to help spread vital information to help people help #bees. Deal? Thanks for your help with this. #BeeToThePowerOf10 Small Acts = Big Impact! 10/11

Please note: All #bees in these clips were immediately rescued and survived. Rescue was delayed for less than a minute to record their plight to make more people aware of this issue. Whilst we concentrate on bees here all #insects should be shown the same consideration. 11/11 🙏🏼

I have these in my garden. I've planted loads of bee friendly plants (just moved in last year) and have 3 acres next to me of wild land but very little in the way of water. These were used by loads of insects and survived a Scottish winter!

Happy Easter & Thank You, @the_beeguy.🙏 @threadreaderapp please unroll for the little bees. Thanks. 💖🐝💖 @weare_tbg, saw this thread & thought of you and your #EdsVeg farm, bees and honey. Just having your honey with lemon, garlic and thyme, to try to shift a chest infection.

They usually find a hole in a stone wall to lay eggs -could she not find somewhere to lay her eggs ?

It’s impossible to explain this to people who are terrified of insects.

@gatesisavirus Totally agree with you on this one. It’s very important that bees survive. They’re our future food supply pollinators. 👍

Aww, I love bumble bees, sadly I sometimes find dead ones in our conservatory, but if I see one buzzing inside I always rescue her

Interesting info! Thanks. Pleased to say last week I (gently) helped two rather large, dozy bumblebees back into the outside world after they dropped from the attic door I hadn't opened since before the winter. They're welcome back anytime.

Question: Had a queen desperately trying to enter my enclosed porch. Even chewed a hole in my wooden door. In those situations what can I do?

Could you post about carpenter bumblebees? Think there is a colony close to my building. So, now I am growing multiple containers for pollinators. And me.🐝😁💛🖤

As someone with a strong phobia of wasps, I have to really try hard not to run from bumble bees. I know they are a lot ,ore gentle but the size of them and the droning really frightens me!! 😂 I have given some sugar water to one before, but I wish I could get over my phobia.

Our previous house had a back porch where bees often bumbled in even if the door was only open for a minute. I'd open the window but they didn't always get the hint, so kept a piece of card and a yogurt carton to hand. Lost count of the number I released that way!

@EmaPrintPattern I picked one up from a path, she had been there a while, not moving but was alive. Gave her sugar water on saturday but she seemed very weak. she was still hanging on on sunday, offered more sugar water and put her into a plant, where she crawled in and clung on.

Not sure how it got in my house but saw the biggest bee I ever saw in my lounge, well heard it first, it was on top of the soil in a house plant buzzing against the window, I opened the window, lifted the pot and off she went, made my day that I could help her🐝
