I do it whenever I play guitar as well. It isn't actually much of a change, prevents damage to the guitar, and as is at least as easy to take off (unbuckle) for let's say, when nature calls. It's one of the first things I teach students, believe it or not.

He does a front loop where he only only ties it around the front loops of the waist, and not the back, pretty unconventional, but pretty convenient to take it off
