AZ has not been 'withdrawn'. It and the other original 'Wuhan' vaccines are no longer used as the bivalent vaccines are more effective against Omicron variants.

Vaxzevria wasn’t “withdrawn”, quietly or otherwise. It was used until august 2022 (in the U.K.), but without updating for new variants was not included in the autumn booster program. Its use was discontinued. That’s a big difference, but you choose your words to sow doubt

It has been happening for decades. There is an unwritten 'agreement' whereby to recoup research and development costs, regulators approve new drugs with dubious safety/efficacy. Add it to the NICE guidance so sales are guaranteed. Companies make as much as they can as a branded drug before adverse effects start coming through and it is taken off the market or put a warning put on it or restrict its use. Pharma argument is that if we don't get sales we can't afford to develop more. Most of the commonly used drugs have been around for some time, the pipeline is dry. mRNA is their only hope for future sales. But currently if big pharma fails, pension funds are in trouble. We have to address that too.
