Radical idea: Let’s do everything we can to help out these people before we send another penny to Zelenskyy.

I can't believe how many people have responded like this to a post calling to help disaster victims and deprioritizing aid to corrupt foreign regimes. 😧

Aside from the torrent of really nasty personal attacks and whataboutism (Trump! Israel! climate change!), the responses to this post have fallen into a few camps: “We can do both! We are so rich!” There is no point in responding to someone who doesn’t understand that resources are not infinite. “FEMA is already helping!” That’s nice, but I didn’t say anything about FEMA. I said that we should help the victims of this disaster. Funny everyone seems to have missed that! There are many ways to do this. Maybe if people weren’t so burdened with taxes that are spent on things that don’t benefit us, we would be in a better position to help them ourselves. And it’s an insult to pretend like whatever FEMA has done has solved the problem—it’s apparent from the images that these towns have a very long road to rebuilding ahead of them. “The funds for Ukraine and domestic come from entirely different sources! It is literally impossible to reallocate those funds.” 1) The funds all come from the same source—our tax dollars. 2) Of course we can choose to reallocate the funds. 3) Again, my post is not just about spending on federal disaster programs. “We give no money at all to Ukraine, just old, worthless weapons that were just sitting around gathering dust.” Really, no money? And Zelenskyy practically doing us a favor by taking the junk off our hands? I am curious which media outlets are feeding you your propaganda. “That would be socialism, and you are a Republican who always complains about socialism!” First of all, you must have me confused with someone else, because I am not a Republican and have never railed against “socialism.” And again, my post said we should help victims of the disaster and didn’t suggest that should be solely the government’s role. In any case, only extreme libertarians and anarchists believe the government should not provide any sort of social programs. One aid program does not amount to a socialist system. It’s been somewhat interesting browsing these responses, but I am looking forward to the trolls going back under their rocks soon!

The countless people insisting we are not giving Ukraine any money are spreading misinformation. Did this propaganda originate domestically or from abroad? Even the AP fact-checked it.

Yeah we should stop giving Ukraine all those mothballed Bradley Fighting vehicles and other old equipment that has been mothballed in the desert and send them to those flood victims. good idea.

Even more radical idea? The money for FEMA is completely separate from foreign funding. You’re a genuine jackass if you believe otherwise.
